  1. Just noticed Jonathan Davis made a comment at Agents Diary: http://www.agentsdiary.blogspot.com/
  2. Not meaning to be funny but, she could run a window cleaning business. If she can raise 8 new jobs a week for a tenner each at the end of the year she'd have a business doing 416 window cleaning jobs every 4 weeks and will earn over 50k a year. Employ someone to actually do the job and pay them a percentage of takings.
  3. BTL is becoming like a dodo. The options for the BTLers are getting fewer and fewer when the time comes to renegotiate a mortgage at renewal time. http://www.residentiallandlord.co.uk/news1878.html
  4. and the Independent: Industry: Output rising for first time in a year Housing: Prices up and more mortgages approved Business: Confidence highest for a year Retailing: Sales up 4.6% on latest figures Exports: Recovering as world trade stabilises They'll all be at it
  5. The bit in bold says it all really... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Inst...Social_Research
  6. The original filming was done Feb 08. Hamish keeps banging on about a shortage of housing. Its prats like the bloke on HUTH that are to blame buying up all the available housing stock. However, they'll be soon back on the market as they wont be able to keep up repayments. Programme is here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00ddyv4
  7. http://www.websiteoutlook.com/www.moneysavingexpert.com Martin Lewis' website is worth $1.15 million and $1600 a day.
  8. They are full of good advice: http://www.newsletter.co.uk/news/Opinion-d...rket.4971852.jp 12th Feb 09 Never believe anything that a VI estate agent spouts....
  9. BNP win Europe seat for Yorkshire and the Humber region
  10. I live in a rented 3 bed semi 'worth' around £140k in a nice part of town. The rent on this place is £500 a month. Can someone tell me where I can get a mortgage for £500 / month with a deposit of 15%? You cant..... by a long way.
  11. Fiona Phillips came across as a right knob by thinking that Gordon is wonderful
  12. While its true that the price of a house is going up, it cant be truly seen as represetative of the whole market. Houses are still on the market after a couple of years, does that mean that those prices will go up as well and all of a sudden find a buyer - probably not. Housing transactions are still very low. First time buyers are still struggling to find a deposit of a meaningful size. We need more house sales to go through in order to get the decent stuff coming to market. The housing market at the moment is fūcked, and everyone knows it. Once levels of employment start to rise, then we'll see a healthy housing market. The crystal ball is still very cloudy. The bulls will soon be shouting out that we've all missed the boat - in which case, fine cos I wont be playing.
  13. It reminds me of a conversation that I heard this morning at a carboot sale. This woman said I bought it for a tenner from a stall over there, we'll easily be able to flip it for 20 quid. Theyre all at it.
  14. Until 5 to 10% deposits are the normal dont expect any decent take up of mortgages. There are many people that can afford 40k to get their foot on the ladder. Too many people have too much personal debt. For them to make further financial commitment would be fool hardy.
  15. Thats fantastic, soon we will have news stories like: From August 7th 2007 - at the height of all this stupidity http://www.financemarkets.co.uk/2007/08/07...price-increase/
  16. Hamish, care to draw us a graph and show us what you are thinking?
  17. 7k for a 4 bedroom house in Bulgaria. http://promarkltd.co.uk/estate_agents/inde...amp;Itemid=9999 I know its another country, but it demonstrates just how stupid our housing based economy has become. A car in Bulgaria costs roughly the same as a house.
  18. You forgot hairdressers and beauty therapists. In this town, a new one seems to open up every month or so. Cafes, or rather greasy spoons are very common here.
  19. Just drive around the town where you want the business and you'll see who the agents are as there will be To Let signs. It might be a case that if a property is still not let after a while then it might be possible for the LL to rejig the layout. One of the properties that I looked at recently was to be let with 3 floors, but since we didnt need all three floors rent was very negotiable on the ground floor as the property had been empty for over a year. The voids must be hurting the landlords.
  20. So, why not start a charity and open up your own charity shop and pay yourself a wage as its manager donating any profits made after expenses to local groups in your area. You'll receive a lot of free labour. You wont be paying for the stock and you'll receive 80% discount on rates.
