  3. Sky news: Traces of radioactive iodine from Japan's stricken Fukushima power plant have been detected in Glasgow, according to Sky sources. http://news.sky.com/skynews/Article/201009115962260

  6. Hey! I have done that course with Dan! So where/what have you built in the past? I'm currently looking for a good plot in the Highlands to build a cabin. There seems to be 3 or 4 guys building up in the Highlands now.
  7. Yeah, logs don't burn at all in the round. They make an exceptional building material, with great U values - particularly if you use larger Doug Fir logs at least 15" at the tip. If you ever see pictures from a US hurricane zone, look carefully and you will often see that the one or two houses left standing are full-scribe log houses.
  8. Cameron's finally awoke from his slumber....maybe he's been talking to that Euro MP guy. The spa line....awesome! Lets hope the MSM show Cameron's speech rather than the Badgers.....yeah right! I can but hope!!
  9. Could this not be to provide some future protection for the nationionalised banks? When interest rates soar, those with 3x single income will be most likely to still be able to repay their mortgage. So is it a way of trying to limit future defaults and repossessions? Granted, this will produce more defaults and repossessions short term but maybe this is looking slightly longer term? ...or maybe I'm giving the government too much credit in thinking beyond the end of the week and there will be no chance they'll implement this!!
  10. Read this in my local paper: "The full force of the recession is evident with only five jobs advertised locally – and nearly 600 people seeking work." Don't fancy those odds! http://www.stornowaygazette.co.uk/news/Ple...-as.5070546.jp Edit: Link
  11. OMG biggest laugh of the day...."it doesn't matter where is started...."
  12. Me....and I do sometimes use iplayer, but never to catch up on Eastenders!
  13. Ok....so how does everyone get access to 2mbps? Mobile doesn't have the infrastructure to deliver 2G to some areas let alone 3G. ADSL doesn't provide 2mbps for many either....if 2mbps should be a minimum (and I agree most don't need much more than that at the moment), then someone will need to invest. I can't see telecos doing much investment...especially if there might be government money on the table (depending on what Carter comes out with this week).
  14. [quote name='cells' date='Jan 26 2009, 07:19 PM' post='1618399' Everything else is easily done with the current 20mb/s speeds. 20mbps is probably acceptable for the next 5 years....but how do you propose to get 20mbps to everyone? Currently the only technology that does that is fibre-based technology.
