  2. If by 'increase security for tenants' Milliband means to take us back to Labours last such effort, the Rent Act 1977, that would collapse the private rental market and we would have a house price crash.
  3. At my club we shoot knock down steel plates with semi auto .22 rimfires. Great fun.
  4. Some information here. http://www.hm-treasury.gov.uk/d/mpm_annex5.6.pdf
  5. 36% drop in value. More of that needed. Bring it on.
  6. Me too. He was the one who didn't whine or rage. In deeply vile situation he was unprepared for he just got on and made what he could of it.
  7. Take a look at how the windmills are doing at the moment. http://www.gridwatch.templar.co.uk/
  8. The £20 per ton difference was back in the eighties at the time the mines were being closed. Low energy costs in America now are due to the shale gas bonanza.
  9. £20 per ton cheaper on the international market than domestic costs of production.
  10. That would be Demetrious Panton. She had to pay him £20,000 damages for slander. How do we get rid of them? Perhaps a traditional socialist method involving forced labour in primitive camps in a cold climate would be appropriate.
  11. As a former Price Waterhouse employee I expect she knows all about this sort of thing.
  12. At least he was brighter than this plank. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/crime/9723883/Cannabis-grower-caught-after-dialling-999-to-report-plants-stolen.html
  13. There seem to be quality issues with these things. I have had one last as little as a year and also have one that is more than twenty years old. I like CFL lights but abhor the fact that people who don't are forced to use them
  14. If you are being compensated for loss of value to some element of your holding any increase in value is deducted from that compensation. There were various efforts over the course of the 20th century to tax landowners for increases in value due to public works. From memory the first was in Lloyd Georges 1906 budget. The most comprehensive were the financial provisions of the 1947 Town and Country Planning Act. They do not work.
  15. People who have their interest in land reduced in value by road or rail development already have a statutory right to compensation detailed in the Land Compensation Act 1973. This has been widely used in the past and there will doubtless be many claims under it when and if this scheme is built. http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1973/26/contents edit. link added

  17. I didn’t increase my popularity by being unable to pass a party of men and often children with guns, shooting rabbits and deer, without getting out of my BMW and saying: ‘Do you really have nothing better to do with your Saturday morning?’ The look of shock on their faces that I had the cheek to challenge them was priceless. 19. Pigeons, meet cat. This is going to be fun. The beginning of the end for the great windmill scam I hope.
  20. I am well over 50 and have no sympathy for any of my generation who are still in debt. It is after all not a complex concept, you borrow money, you pay it back. Each generation will have a percentage of people who determinedly overcome every advantage and mess themselves up financially. There is a word for them and it rhymes with anchors.
