  5. Pubs / bars closing down, at the weekend the remaining ones were pretty empty. Noticed a lot of cars and boats with for sale signs in the windows. Last Saturday, I walked past a "trendy tosspot hair salon". It is normally very very busy and it was deserted, so I popped in and enquired if they had any free appointments

  10. A bit larger scale than the gentleman of Asian origin who scammed roughly £5 million off RBS. Allegedly sent the money to Pakistan, and was allegedly never seen again. Best bit was he worked for the RBS in an anti fraud department if memory serves me correct

  16. I remember a "debt programme" where some trolly dolly who flew out of Manchester Airport as cabin crew bought a terrace in Manchester. He had been living beyond his means, and resorted to using credit card cheques to pay the mortgage. This would have been 2/3 years ago!!!
  17. Someone on £36k a year living in an ex council flat, on a dodgy estate in London. Welcome to the NuLabour Britain 2008
  18. When I last taxed my car (Dec 2007) out of curiosity I asked at the Post Office if they accepted payment by Credit Card, to be told by the lady behind the counter that Credit Cards were not accepted for Car Tax (This was in Hinckley )
  19. With phrases like that, I would suggest a career in the Labour Party.
  20. I found out this week that an acquaintance of mine has borrowed heavily from the BOM&D in a similar scenario set out by the OP. For what it is worth I think the best thing to do is keep quiet and hope they can muddle through the downturn. It is obvious that these people believe what they are doing is right, even if that flies in the face of what is currently going on in the housing market. You can take a horse to water, but you can't make him drink.
