I remember a "debt programme" where some trolly dolly who flew out of Manchester Airport as cabin crew bought a terrace in Manchester. He had been living beyond his means, and resorted to using credit card cheques to pay the mortgage. This would have been 2/3 years ago!!!

When I last taxed my car (Dec 2007) out of curiosity I asked at the Post Office if they accepted payment by Credit Card, to be told by the lady behind the counter that Credit Cards were not accepted for Car Tax (This was in Hinckley )
