The fun discussion part was about the worst bit of your job. An EA wrote in to say that the worst thing about his job right now is telling people their house isn't worth what they think it is! Made me smile a bit.
Good stuff, in fact I might go get a job as an EA, sounds like fun at the moment.

'And the new Labour leader was one of scores of wimps, careerists and cowards who uttered not a peep of protest against the maniacal vandalising of the nation's finances carried out by the last Labour leader.'

But I have five children, and I know just how difficult it is to make ends meet with a larger family.
'George Osborne has declared war on families?????
Sounds like you have declared war on contraception pal. '

Similar anecdotal here, work collegue reported house (purchased for high eighties in 2006, and valued over 100K in 2007) was valued on this weekend past at about 80K (or similar).
80k for a house? jeebus, does it house dolls made of clothes pegs and string?

If you think this generation is bad, spare a thought for all the kids being brought up as spoilt brats. I know parents of kids who shower more gifts on their children than they ever appreciate or play with. Imagine what they will be like when they grow up?
The wife & I have talked about this, my sister in laws little girl has been very spoilt and tells her mum to buy it 'on the computer' when she wants something and her mum isn't going into town, refusal results in tantrums until she gives in to keep the peace.
When I were a lad, I wouldn't dream of kicking up a fuss if I couldn't have something - mum would simpy state 'we can't afford it' or 'when you're older and earning some money, you can buy it yourself' which I thought a great answer (in hindsight). Not just that but the discipline/aka respect/fear I had for my father meant I'd never dare venture into tantrums-ville for fear of a clout round the ear hole.
We're determined to keep our 13-week old son out of the clutches of materialistic desire but I'm sure it's much harder than it appears to impose your will on a little un!

Wife viewing property:
Darling.. I think something is wrong - look over there.. yellow, clammy skin, vacant stare, mouth wide open, dribbling,
no sign of breathing or emotions. I think...
Husband: .. Never mind the estate agent dear, I'm more worried at that poor stiff lying on the couch.

You mean the Sky News website? Can't actually get the site up over uber slow crap BT Rubbish Slow Band.
People have woken up ten years too late.
Any particular story on this website?

'Buy-to-let parasitism has been promoted on British television for over a decade. A shit parade of awful scum have promoted buy-to-let on dire DIY TV shows like How to be a property spiv on Channel 5, Kirsty Allsop's Property Porn on Channel 4, and the BBC's House Prices Can Only Go Up.'

TMT, you broke rule number 1: never suggest HPC to a home-owner! That way lies broken friendships, pain and a lonely death.
The idea of HPI is just so entrenched... an anecdotal: a few weeks ago I was talking with 2 couples (both greytops) about where my life was going:
- "Are you and the lovely Mrs DeepLurker going to buy a house sometime then?"
- "Well, prices are ridiculous at the moment. I'll wait until they drop back a bit; say, to the level of just 10 years ago, so we're talking of roughly 1/3rd of current prices."
A pregnant pause.
- "Oh, ok then.. and how's the job going?"
The weird thing is that both couples were expats, i.e. they no longer have any skin in the game, no property in the UK. But still the idea of affordable housing was deeply disturbing to them.
My point being: they're all mad. But don't tell them that, they won't thank you for it
A pause and an oh ok then sounds quite accepting to me, not a sign of deep disturbedness

I went to a caff for breakfast this morning and it was a choice of Mirror or Mail. I was glad i chose mirror when i saw this piece in a prime rag for the hard-of-thinking masses!
I hope you left it in there with that story facing sunny side up

A mate of mine inherited £70k from his grandad, bought a place in 2002 and watched the place rise in value through pure luck of inheriting/buying at a 'good' time.
A few years later he described himself as 'shrewd' for having done so.
I didn't quite punch him in the face.

Time I rolled out my well-worn anecdotal - I bought in 1994 at Seven Dials for £25k off a mate - he said the place was 'worth' £80k a few years before at its peak..
What was that song about a little bit of history repeating..
