  12. The wife & I have talked about this, my sister in laws little girl has been very spoilt and tells her mum to buy it 'on the computer' when she wants something and her mum isn't going into town, refusal results in tantrums until she gives in to keep the peace. When I were a lad, I wouldn't dream of kicking up a fuss if I couldn't have something - mum would simpy state 'we can't afford it' or 'when you're older and earning some money, you can buy it yourself' which I thought a great answer (in hindsight). Not just that but the discipline/aka respect/fear I had for my father meant I'd never dare venture into tantrums-ville for fear of a clout round the ear hole. We're determined to keep our 13-week old son out of the clutches of materialistic desire but I'm sure it's much harder than it appears to impose your will on a little un!
  13. 'Buy-to-let parasitism has been promoted on British television for over a decade. A shit parade of awful scum have promoted buy-to-let on dire DIY TV shows like How to be a property spiv on Channel 5, Kirsty Allsop's Property Porn on Channel 4, and the BBC's House Prices Can Only Go Up.'
  14. A pause and an oh ok then sounds quite accepting to me, not a sign of deep disturbedness
  15. I hope you left it in there with that story facing sunny side up
  16. A mate of mine inherited £70k from his grandad, bought a place in 2002 and watched the place rise in value through pure luck of inheriting/buying at a 'good' time. A few years later he described himself as 'shrewd' for having done so. I didn't quite punch him in the face.
  17. Time I rolled out my well-worn anecdotal - I bought in 1994 at Seven Dials for £25k off a mate - he said the place was 'worth' £80k a few years before at its peak.. What was that song about a little bit of history repeating..
