  1. Nice story - cheers one up. Hope he gets to take some of those cheerleaders out for dinner too! Bet the insurance company are well and truly choked though! win a few, lose a few!!
  2. What the christ has this got to do with House Prices?
  3. I was so scandalised by this that I actually contacted the agent to ask how it could be that a very nice 4 bed detatched could be on offer at £160000 more than has ever been achieved in the road. http://*******.com/yz9szfb http://*******.com/yhhlwcw I was told to mind my own business. Anyone who pays over £450k for this needs their heads testing!
  4. HPC - the Broken Clock website - bound to be accurate occasionally.
  5. Nice try - unfortunately you're wrong. This is HPI, a precursor to wider inflation (but not wage inflation) which will make life very difficult for folk who have assets in cash (GBP). I bought a house in the summer and am very glad I did after two years on the sidelines. Time will reveal all but I am very confortable with my position.
  6. ""strategy he called his 'infinite rate of return', whereby money is taken from investors and used as the marketing budget for other property developments."" Pompey or Ponzi?
  7. Sold in Sept 07, bought in Aug 09. Made 30k in interest have since made 50k in notional house price increase. Am seriously considering STR again in late winter/early spring 2010 to see whether it's possible to crystalise the profit but am concerned about possible inflation next year so will only decide in Jan or Feb. Thanks.
  8. Question: How does the average FTB earning £16-23k "afford" the "average" property at £180-200k? Answer: Two incomes + bank of M&D deposit. I am not sure you can get so called Liar Loans these days? (unsure.GIF)
  9. Fine - that they have, but the point is that there has to be consistency. What seems to happen on this site however is that any rises in price are not statistically acceptable due to the low number of sales used to make up the sample while a drop in prices is more grist to the HPC mill.
  10. In that case why have "bears" been ejaculating merrily over the last 18 months over crunching falls using similarly low levels of transactions? Moreover, if the Halifax shows a fall next week will you be recommending caution on the basis of the number of sales?

  12. Honest EA - are you out there? Can you update us on the situation in your area? Haven't heard from you for a long time - must be very busy?
  13. That's right - anyone who does not bang the HPC drum is "a troll" and should be flagged up as such. OK so the website's name gives one a clue to where it's coming from, but the relentless bearishness is crazy. We all know that house prices are overvalued but we have to deal with the reality, not how we would like the world to be. Some on here cannot deal with that and are starting to look pretty stupid, especially as the more they vilify the so-called trolls, the more they (Sibley, et al) are starting to look quite shrewd. No pragmatism from HPC'ers only dogma - you are just talking to yourselves and the real world is ignoring you. Underneath the bridge, the tarp has sprung a leak The animals I've trapped have all become my pets And I'm living off of grass and drippings from the ceiling It's okay to eat fish, 'cause they don't have any feelings
  14. Well, I complete on my house today. Have been renting for almost exactly 2 years now and feel there is little downside left. Having bagged a bargain solely on my ability to complete rapidly being chain free and 85% cash I am well aware of the benefits of STR. I've been criticised and even scorned by others on here for buying but there you go - my thoughts are we are not going to hell in a handcart, that there will be mild asset price inflation and a house is as good as any other instrument (plus I can live in it) to weather this. So I am one of the 9 people on this thread who say they have bought in the last 3 months... I've diarised for this time next year to revisit this thread - it will be interesting to see whether the collective wisdom of HPC is right or not.

  16. I think he means that given that Nwide's figures were positive then it might be reasonably expected that Halifax's would be similar...
  17. Yes mate. Actually I'm not slagging anyone off, as you rightly say not previously and not now - I can't be arsed because this is just a web forum. What's balls got to do with it? I believe I could take any amount of pointless invective and bile sent my way from a keyboard - we're not exactly talking going head to head with the Taleban, are we? All the best mate - all will be well!
  18. It's lunch time, I'm bored, but true, I couldn't care less if I'm actually honest. I'll ignore your idiotic epithet too - in part because I couldn't care less as stated but also due to the fact that you are clearly an unhappy person and I don't want to make it worse for you. All the best - Ron
  19. ... cue one word pejorative/responses...!
  20. Oh and btw - it's people that post one word responses, usually pejorative/offensive that bring this place down too.
