  1. Does anyone else think this is a potential mis-selling scandal of the future? Obviously self-cert and IO are a given for future mis-selling claims but I think shared ownership could go the same way. Richard
  2. what about this one: http://www.rightmove.co.uk/viewdetails-186...p;mam_disp=true

  4. COAB, Sorry to hijack this thread but are you really a bull now or is that sarcasm on your part? I'm still in Watford (don't know if you are) and would be interested to know if you're really bullish. Richard
  5. I know that some people disapprove of threads that highlight advanced MSE muppetry but I couldn't let this one go. Post #3 is particularly good. http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=503182
  6. that's great - thanks for the info!
  7. I'm so glad I dipped into this thread. I didn't realise that this kind of facility was available on this scale. The ELADS service looks good to me (I need to look more closely at the other one because I couldn't immediately spot the deposit option) but I wonder whether you guys know of any online resources for comparing the rates on offer by the various providers in this space? Perhaps there are no disparities I don't know as I'm new to this. All sources welcome and thanks for the info above. Richard
  8. Hi, I'm afraid I can't help you much because: 1) I was an IT contractor just passing through at the time and never assessed it from the perspective of being a potential place of settlement. 2) - I have really low standards when it comes to assessing a place to live. Providing it has: * post office * 24hr super market + garage * M&S I'm happy. 3) I won't pretend to remember the names of the various areas never mind their relative merits. All of that said, I thought it was fine and would have been happy to still be there had my job not disappeared. Lots of people at work slagged it off but I just didn't see what their problem was. There was a fantastic little italian restaurant in Studley as well - dunno if it's still there. Anyway good luck in whatever you decide - I think you could do a lot worse that Redditch. Richard
  9. Interesting.... I lived in Redditch from mid 1999 to end of 2000. For the first 12 months I rented a very nice 2 bed flat in Lydham Close for 450pcm. I then moved to a 1 bed flat in Rangeworthy Close for 350pcm. Richard
  10. I have many chats that follow this sort of pattern: Me: "Nah I'll wait for the crash" Retard: "The govt won't let that happen." Me: "So do you think that going in to the 2001 election, the govt had identified the slaughtering of the FTSE as a vote winner?" Retard: "er....." Remarkable.
  11. http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=329023 post #21 is particularly amusing
  12. I live in Watford and 2 bed flats on that development were recently being advertised 'from £420k'. Dunno if they're still asking that much though.

  14. It was rubbish. I got my hopes up a little because at the top of the show the presenter said (in a cynical tone) 'can it really be worth buying just 40% of your home?'. Unfortunately the conclusion of the piece was 'yes'.
  15. I'm totally with Dr Bubb on this one. I'll be 30 in May and with no pension, working in a sector experiencing outsourcing and a property purchase 12 - 24 months away with 8 years of very aggressive saving under my belt to get even that close, I am resolved to never being able to take the financial risks associated with being with anyone. I am also in line for an inheritance which my parents have built up from absolutely nothing which I feel duty-bound to protect. To follow up on Masked Tulip's post above, I do a lot of hiring and recently had to attend a seminar on changes to the discrimination laws coming in this October. During the presentation, the lawyer doing the presentation told us that the word 'lady' is offensive and politically incorrect, so think about that next time you say 'Good morning ladies' at work. I was gobsmacked but looked it up on google and it does indeed seem to a no-no expression. The world's gone mad. Somebody has even come up with something called the 'offensiveness quotient'. 16. no - suit and hair gel only. I'll be very interested to see what prices they actually achieve.
  17. Walked passed it today on my way to the Harlequin but didn't go in. Saw some bloke holding a clutch of balloons - presumably filled with very hot air. I echo your sentiments about the location - although you forgot to mention the tramps under the arch there. There is absolutely no way on this earth they will get £266k for a 2 bed there - not when 2 beds on Andrew Reed Court are asking (and sticking like superglue) at between 200 and 240 (apart from the comedy 2 bed £395k offering that's been on for years).
  18. Yes and their successful case study had actually inherited her deposit. Saw both interviews and they both wound me up - the second one in particular. Images of those young people enjoying a dinner party didn't do anything to help the perception that FTBs aren't willing to go without in order to achieve their aim. I scrapped my socialising budget 3 yrs ago. All in all - very unhelpful to the HPC cause.

  22. Just out of interest - what parts did you have in mind?
