  1. On a new build I am surprised that you haven't had to sign some sort of agreement and possibly had to give a deposit? Or, have things changed now since I last bought a new property?
  2. Either telephone them or go in and see them on Monday to sort it out. No point in incurring additional court costs as it will be the council tax payers that bear those costs and of which you are one. Best of luck.
  3. If Gordon was willing to listen he would embrace the crash and say what a cracking good idea and the best way to make houses affordable again. I think that the problem Gordon has is that if house prices fall, it impacts on the worth of UK plc.
  4. For some reason the big Victorian houses in areas such as that seem to be ridiculously overpriced. Some don't even have garages or off road parking. With gas prices ever rising it makes me wonder how energy efficient these houses are. What makes them attractive now eg. their high ceilings and 'original sash' windows, might lead to a reduction in prices soon.
  5. Wish I'd bought the shares offered in the rights issue now. I have to say that I wondered if they were deliberately being kept low so that there were few takers. I have a deep mistrust of big financial institutions and government so expect we'll see incomprehensible actions from both.
  6. I have to say there seems to be a lot of overpriced junk going to auction. Perhaps the homes look better inside.
  7. QUOTE (Ignorant Steve @ Aug 4 2008, 02:33 PM) Why is it that everyone on here seems to ignore the fact that it's a landfill problem. Why is everyone not prepared to recycle as much as possible? How much rubbish is dumped into bins that could actually be easily be recycled? Do we have any statistics about the 'cost' to the environment regarding recycling? Does recycling cause less pollution in the long run? Perhaps there should be a greater emphasis on reusing and making do. Free car-boot pitches for all?
  8. If this story stands out as unbalanced reporting, telephone the editor and raise a complaint.
  9. What I'd like to know is how this has all come about. Ok, if you used to do something wrong like that, you might have just got stopped and told not to do it again. Nowadays, it is like living in a dictatorship. Mr Blair's vision of creating Utopia for the masses certainly has lost its rosy tint.
  10. Because .... this Government excels in cover-up and its people are stoical???
  11. Let's just be honest here and admit that the Government has mismanaged the country. Whatever have they been doing with all the money they had at their disposal? After reading about all the fines imposed on people as well (a rake in of £200 a minute in speeding fines, £100 plus for over filling a dustbin) they should really be in clover. The whole bunch of these 'ruling classes' need removing from your petty County Council to the EU.
  12. Pardon?? I was trying to point out that all the 'red tape' and fines etc. that come with having to be 'green' do little to keep industry competitive. Would only be fair if they applied to all, globally, but I don't see that happening. Just think about the pollution that China is generating.
  13. Guess it will be good news for those who qualify for council housing. Seems particularly unfair to those who haven't accumulated enough 'points'.
  14. I fail to understand this 'right to buy' privilege for council tenants. People renting in the private sector don't get any benefits like this at all.
  15. I'd vote UKIP in preference to the Green Party. Hopefully they will kick the Lisbon Treaty out and we'd be free of this European Union Dogma that impacts so much upon our lives now. Being Green is all very well but we have seen the ridiculous laws individual councils have come up with in relation to refuse collection. Furthermore, how Green can a country become before it loses its competitive edge?
  16. In all seriousness, the government has to do something to encourage people to save. Unfortunately they are looking to achieve the opposite with their spend, spend, spend policy to save the economy. It wouldn't be quite so bad if what we bought was British but most of it ain't. I don't see interest rates being raised anytime soon - apart from those for Student Loans
  17. It's generally accepted that the price for new build is higher than that for resale property. However, unless you really want to live in a brand new flat, you can purchase a decent house for less than £200K, with a garage and garden. I think at the moment, property companies prefer to shout for Government bailouts rather than be realistic.
  18. It had been my understanding that you needed to renegotiate your mortgage should you wish to rent your property out. Is this not the case?
  19. Like someone mentioned on here, it could be very risky to buy a new build as what is to stop the Gov't buying up some of these units to place who knows who in them?
  20. Could they be cutting savings rates so that they can lower the mortgage rates? Perhaps the government have told them to do this first, before the 90 billion gets handed over!!
  21. I don't think we need be overly concerned about the escalating cost, as the nice man from the BBC showed us how to switch off the lights, television etc. this morning. He mentioned energy efficient light bulbs but unfortunately forgot to say where to purchase said item. Expect to find the info on their website. Actually, with prices rising all the time, perhaps it is prudent to renationalise the industry. Alistair should tell the banks he's going to buy a power station with that £90 billion instead.
  22. Is the Government's only remit to see how much money they can extract from the UK public? Dick Turpin had nothing on this lot. Their 'redistribution' of wealth has resulted in the rich getting richer and poor getting poorer. High income earners should be paying 50% tax if NuLab wants to raise some money. Leave the VAT levels and council tax alone.
