  1. How did the proprietor know that he would have the £100 to give back? Q
  2. Damn - I sold at 74 - now at 76.3 I guess I would rather have a realised gain today than a paper loss tomorrow? I don't think I'd have the nerve for heavy trading! Q
  3. I'm positive that I will be proven wrong as I was with Anglo shares (I sold at 1440 and they are sitting near 1900 now ). However, I still made 7% or so with those and compared to the paltry rates that my savings account offers I'm more than happy. Q
  4. Hi all, I flogged my minor holding in Lloyds on Tuesday. No greater reason than I thought a 14-15% profit is better than nothing and that all good things (like this latest run of consecutive rises for the FTSE) must come to an end. My technical analysis essentially equates to gut feeling. Q
  5. Hi all, Thanks for you replies. I have finally received my deposit back in full. However, I had to threaten the letting agent with the four horsemen of the apocalypse for them to spring into action. Disappointed that it had to come to that. Q
  6. Hi TM, Congrats on the purchase - hope it all goes swimmingly well. We bought earlier in the year and moved in about a month ago. We're certainly a lot happier in the new place - loads more space for the little ones and no unresponsive letting agents to deal with. Once again, all the best. Regards, Q
  7. Hi all, Checked out of our rental nearly four weeks ago. House was returned in very good order (I'm particular like that ) and the LA agreed for full deposit release a couple of days later. Well, nearly four weeks on and no sign of our deposit. I've called the LA quite a few times and keep getting told that the approval was passed to accounts and that someone will call me back (hasn't happened). What are their obligations in terms of getting the deposit back to me? I'm getting to the point where I'm going to lodge a complaint with ARLA. I spent a lot of time ensuring that the checkout/handover would be hassle free and getting messed about on the deposit return is starting to get my proverbial goat more than a little! Reards, Q
  8. If it wasn't for the fact that this impacts us all I'd be saying "Jammer om jou kak to hoor!". Q
  9. Well, today's at one point 2.6% gains are all but gone. Bad news Stateside? Q
  10. Ah...my overactive imagination at work again. I thought I read 22 somewhere in the thread - must cut down on the caffeine. Q
  11. At twenty-two he must have had the most profitable paper round known to mankind! Q
  12. Militaria fair? Receipt? Fat chance! Many of the 'dealers' at these fairs are not registered businesses and are evading tax in a big way. I concur wholeheartedly. Seems to be a minority viewpoint though. Q
  13. The problem arises when everybody adopts the "I'm alright Jack!" attitude. This is not the Wild West - we all still need to operate within the framework of the law. I think you get quite a lot in return for your taxes. If you lost your job and fell on hard times the state would look after you. That is a lot more than many other countries would do. I'm not saying that the government don't waste an obscene amount of money, they do, but that is hardly a good reason to evade taxes. Q
  14. Yes, but your advice and moral justifcation would probably not hold much water with a HMRC inspector. Avoid tax by all means possible but advising people to evade tax isn't such a great idea. What were those two certainties in life again? Q
  15. They'll be crying into their cornflakes if it dips back down to 3,600! Q
  16. Avoid tax or evade tax? There is only so much you can do to avoid tax but if you're suggesting evasion that is a totally different kettle of ball games. Q
  17. I'll admit to be fairly ignorant on stock market issues but doesn't the bull/bear trap definition depend on which direction the market is going? So in the context of a falling market, which seems to be the current consensus, the current rise would be a bull trap? These things are so much clearer in hindsight and when plotted on a graph! Regards, Q
  18. Staggering. My letting agent experiences of this past weekend was them not turning up for a viewing (our lease expires soon) on Saturday without the courtesy of a phone call to say they weren't coming and then workers arriving unexpectedly on Monday morning. First thing we knew of it was them ringing the bell! Q
  19. Cue Gordon's strategy being hailed a success and another term in office. I regret I have but one salary to give to my country. Q
  20. Ain't that the truth! I suppose after years of exceeding the RDA of bear food you become, well, bearish. Q
  21. Hi all, Notice that the FTSE100 is up circa 2% so far already this morning. This follows on from last weeks climbs after a slight swine flu induced blip on the monday. Is this another bull trap? Are we going to see some heavy profit taking soon? Is there another plummet on the cards? It all seems a bit of an enigma to me that the market is flying when the economy is flagging. Q
  22. I think the current situation adds some credibility to that statement. Q
  23. Or maybe saw an opportunity to upgrade their home? Q
