  1. Appalling bias in the headline. Why not highlight the 2.5m it will help or the fact that 6 out of 10 of the poorest families will be better off. And why it is a bad thing to discourage both parents from working. IMHO, an ideal society would be one where a family can live off one wage (be it male or female) so the kids have a parent at home and get the attention they need.

Anyway, I think this is good news. The reform is long overdue.

You expect the left wing media engine that is the BBC to give praise to the Tories? Not on yer life.

  2. Did a quick poll at work and it does seem about 70% of people have their heating set between 15->17C!

They think I'm mad for having mine at 22C when I'm at home!!!!

I'm I a freak for having my heating on so high?

Do you wander round the house with shorts and t-shirt?

My heating is set at 16, but sometimes gets turned down to 14 or lower when im training on my turbo trainer. Rule of thumb - if you arent wearing a jumper then put one on before turning it up. Me and my girlfriend are quite active - ie we dont site at home for hours in front of the tv and ive found that can make a difference

  3. Many thanks again everyone.

He has emailled back to say he thinks he is being fair for taking the money for the freezer because the (8 year old) vacuumn cleaner broke down during our tennancy and he didnt charge us for the repair (!!!)

We will have to do something further, which, I was really hoping we wouldn't have to, we will send the letter as suggested. Should we also ask about the deposit protection? The last contract we signed was March 2010 even though we have been there 5 years.. I just want to put as many things in as possible to try and just get him to give it back.

Your deposit should have been protected as your last AST was signed in March this year. Ask about the deposit protection and if it isnt notify your landlord you will begin legal proceedings to claim back 3 times your deposit unless the full amount is returned within 24 hours.

  4. Does not include auctions/repossessions.

Cannot trust the price set out - e.g. so-called 'gifts' or 'cashback' that gets put on the registered price so that the relevant lender's LTV restrictions can be met while conveniently boosting the registered price for the developer and the purchaser.

DON'T TRUST THE LAND REGISTRY DATA WHEN LOOKING UP PRICES!

Repo auctions. I believe that it does include auctions of properties which arent distressed.

  5. Not very hard.

    In other answers

Q: "When will QE be unwound?"

A: "When it's the right time."

    Q: "When might that be?"

A: "When it's the right time".

    (Again paraphrasing)

The only positive to come out of it (by the sounds of the things ) is that the questions are why arent interest rates going up and QE being unwound. Imagine if it was Labour - the questions would be why arent you printing more and can we have negative interest rates

  6. "Could be there by next week on Nationwide HPI"

Not if they can help it ;).

They are preparing the UK for it - what do you think their announcement earlier this week was all about. Its not going to be very negative, but thats not going to matter... Im sure they'll find something to blame it on - maybe todays snow?

  7. Asked "Why not raise rates a little now, instead of potentially having to put them up more sharply later" - I'm paraphrasing a bit

    1. The markets would respond negatively (which to me read as "would realise inflation is out of the bag")

    2. It's better to move correctly than slowly. No need to move in small steps/not necessarily right to do that

    3. Inflation will be < target in 2 years so would be a mistake

When pressed on (3) "We've been told that for a while" response was "inflation expectations well anchored while wage growth < 2%"

How much did they press point 3? Surely after so long of inflation above 2%, a few months of inflation below 2% wouldnt hurt as long as its above 0?

  8. If you pay prior to reviewing it and there turns out to be unfair terms that the LA are unwilling to remove, then the LA will have to refund you the money. If they refuse threaten them with the small claims court - the judge will easily find in your favour as it will class as being under duress. However its much easier if they are sensible enough to show you a sample prior to putting down the holding deposit.

  9. Austerity never works wherever its tried. Because an economy is like yin and yang. An economy can't have everyone working harder and buying less. People including PHD economists are always taking what makes sense on an individual level and thinking it will make sense on a societal level.

Imo there is only two options.. 1) borrow and print and spend a ton of new money to get things rolling. Eg.. the Chinese stimulus plan in 2008.

    2) default on debts, clear the slate and start rolling again. The Argentina plan.

Canada doesnt count then? Check your facts aa3

  10. You are correct, forecasting a stable population for western Europe, and probably Britain as well.

And if you think our UK housing stock is already good enough, both in terms of quantity and quality, then we would not need any improvement.

    Do you?!

If it wasnt for immigration and births to immigrants then the UK population WOULD be in decline

  11. He came across as a complete moron in the interview.

    Q. Are the GDP numbers good?

    A. No, and they're only positive because of Labour.

    Q. Is it good that all sectors showed growth?

    A. No, because .... um, just, because.

Clearly shows that labour purely say the opposite of what the tories regardless of right or wrong. I cant believe people actually vote for such a party
