Are you referring to the wobble - you know - precession of the equinoxes and all that....? Very important stuff........ A wobble is a wobble after all, when all's dead and son. -

Doesn't look to me as though it's going to be a "fall off a cliff" day. Just a steady decline. Friday could provide the drama missing today, though. -

Breaking News: Ireland Reject Eu Constitution
Methinkshe replied to pootle's topic in House prices and the economy
Um, just come late to this thread. I didn't even know that the Irish were voting today. Are you sure? There has been not a word in the media..... If they really have rejected the Lisbon Treaty - three cheers for the Irish and a few Guinesses to boot.... -

Naming and giving substance to, is worthy of a debate in its own right. Just be aware that the naming of a concept is very powerful - it can give existence to that which was previously just a thought. Be careful of your words. -

I think the view you express is much more akin to our traditional tolerance as a country than the one we now face - a regulated religious tolerance, if you like; however, one must also admit that if there is any state prevention from a declaration of truth, and a concommitant disallowance of exclusivity concerning faith in that truth, then the faith itself is undermined and all protestations of tolerance go out the window. Thus, we now live in the most religiously intolerant age that this country has know for centuries. Edited for clarity and typos. -

It is my experience that those who have endured a Roman Catholic education are most repelled by God and farthest away from finding Him. Roman Catholicism is a manmade interpretation of God, delivered by intermediaries - priests. True Christianity has to do with just you and God getting together and having a chat. No religion, no intermediaries, just you and Him. Please, on no account put any faith in either me or my opinions. However, if you detect within them some truth, then may I point you to the source of that truth - my Father, God. Always, you must arrive at your own conclusions. No-one else's research or experience can ever replace your own. No-one else can dictate another's need or tell them how it should be met. These are matters for the individual. All I can do is point you in the direction of where I have found satisfaction on every level of human existence. But whether or not you choose to to either look or go there is your choice alone. I'm sure you will be forgiven. And if no-one else does, I do. Edited to add: Your post reminded of the falsity of Roman Catholicism and how I expressed it in a poem I wrote a while back (and, yes, I'm sorry about all the poetry I have resorted to in this thread, but sometimes it encapsulates in a condensed form what can barely be committed to paper, never mind articulated. It can sometimes express the otherwise inexpressible.) Perhaps it may mean something to you. His-story I was fifteen when the Christian Brothers folded their hands and fumbling fingers. Brother Mulholland gave me a one-way train ticket to London, our mother’s old address and a parting grope. I dug my nails into my calluses and cursed him for his love of the rod and young boys. I discovered our big brother had been spared these monkish habits. God knows how but he’d got our father home from the asylum where he’d been put after swinging that axe at the butcher. They’d used electric shock treatment. He could barely speak when I saw him. Our mother was shit-scared of the six-foot-six zombie. Wouldn’t let him have a fork for his food, never mind a knife. Left him all day, staring, alone with the cats in the stinking parlour. She even made him sleep in that pissed-on chair. He’d beg for me to shave him. I hated his dribbling face. Our mother said he’d been handsome when they got married, always polished his shoes. “It was Wipers what sent him mad.†I cleaned up the cat shit before I joined the Merchants. Our mother wasn’t bothered. That’s when you came home from the convent; you were thirteen, hair the colour of Jamaican rum. I’d never spoken to a girl before. Our mother made you share my bed; there was no other place to sleep. I left for sea in the morning. Gone for five years. But you always knew I’d come again for you. -

You must ask yourself who or what was this "god" in the name of whom Peter Sutcliffe acted. If God the Creator is spirit (and He is self-claimed to be so) then He is not identifiable by pyhsical characteristics. Thus He can only be known by His character - what He claims to be ( i.e what He IS) and what He SAYS and what He DOES. Anyone who, in the name of god, acts contrarily to the revealed character of God, is acting in the name of a "god after his own imagination." That is what Peter Sutcliffe did. Nomenclature does not equate to fact/reality/truth. -

No-one can answer these questions for you. You have to ask yourself why you are so biassed and so unwilling to take seriously the opinions of a person who believes in God. Self-examination is a much under-estimated recourse; we all so much prefer to have a counsellor or an advisor or a psychotherapist tell us what to do. The idea of self-evaluation and responsibility for self is almost anathema these days. -

And how reassuring is that? Bankers fleecing the general populace could, I guess, fit into a survival of the fittest mode...but do we really want all to evolve into bankers or having a banker mentality? Tut, tut, - an evolutionist should never mention the word "designed." Chance, randomness, survival of the fittest, allowed you to perfectly fit this chance, random, world - not DESIGN, for goodness' sake! Next thing, you'll be saying there was a Creator who designed you and the world in which you live, and that would never do! Of course not - we're all on the road to becoming bankers! It's always good to keep an open mind. -

Have you ever had a counterfeit £20 note passed to you? The true is always dogged by the counterfeit. Those who make a point of acquainting themselves with the true are not easily taken in by the counterfeit. However much I may claim that the counterfeit note I hand you in payment for goods is the real thing, will not alter its actual status; but according to your personal understanding, you may or may not be convinced of its authenticity and act upon that conviction - either accepting or rejecting the note I proffer. Do not believe every superficial claim, in other words. -

Daily, and to millions and millions. The problem is, you have been programmed by a materialistic society to not hear His voice because it is a spirit-to-spirit voice and not an audible one. God is Spirit and you must first believe He exists to have any hope of communicating with Him. Once you take that small step of faith you will find that God communicates on a second by second basis - if you are prepared to hear Him. -

You speak foolishly because you know nothing of my history apart from what little I have chosen to disclose here, and nothing of the history of my other half and our individual and joint experiences. It is unwise to make accusations of "hypocrite, a charlatan, or a fool" on such slender knowledge. -

No. Do you? And because I don't, does that disqualify either you or I from discussing issues relating to poverty? I do know what it is like to have no heating and to have to wear two jumpers to bed in the winter so as to keep even a little bit warm. I know what it is like to have no hot water or means of cooking unless wood can be found to fire the range, no money for other than bare essentials, no transport apart from shank's pony and a hopefully extended thumb, and many other privations (if such they may be called) associated with having very little money. Do you? -

If I have any wisdom, it is not mine but Christ-in-me through His Spirit. And honesty compels me to admit that many times I have faltered and thought, oh wouldn't it be nice to have this, go there, do that, then the truth kicks in and I realise that all these things are fleeting - any happiness they may bring is transitory - and nothing compared to the lasting joy of learning to be content with what you have, whether a lot or a little. Sounds a bit like the noise a cash register makes! It reminds me of a poem I wrote many years ago when I was experiencing a "wish I could have this moment." I let my imagination take me to a department store..... Department Store Digress Ching-gong! The till swallows the groceries cash and burps a receipt. The sales assistant interrupts her jaw work-out to spit a thank-you, and slips the black Madonna dress into a bag. Cheap mutton-mince for the menu now, instead of tasty lamb. Past children’s clothes and shoes and hockey sticks, unchipped crockery, image-distorting pans, accusingly snowy sheets, lumber-jackets for cold men, and linger in Lingerie. Triangles of lace and plunging cups would surely tempt a dulled palette, even when a little over-filled. Eyes slide toward a book display; “101 Ways to Make a Meal of Minceâ€. Her soufflé-fantasy deflates as she takes it from the shelf. -

Time and again I have told you where wisdom (non-faulty information) may be found, but you reject it out of hand. For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? “Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they? “And who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life? “And why are you worried about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin, yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these." If you reject the Source of wisdom, then you reject wisdom itself, and will forever flounder in a sea of faulty information and the consequent despair and hopelessness that inevitably must arise from it. -

The problem is that people have been fed faulty information. In my experience, having very little is liberating and exciting; and children thrive on it. Life gains meaning when the next meal cannot be had unless wood is found (pruning roadside hedges is a good source) brought home, sawed, chopped and the range is lit. A once-a-week bath, water shared with a sibling, becomes a luxury and is truly appreciated when the wood first has to be found and prepared. Yet we give our children to believe that happiness may be found in the accumulation of goods. Never have I met more unhappy children than those who have a surfeit of toys and games and clothes and holidays and more...... The happiest children are those whose toys are the grasses in the field, a tree, a den made from overhanging bushes, whose playground is a field and a stream where boats made from twigs and leaves can be floated, whose eyes are glued to the rabbit that is so very nearly coming close enough to grasp if only you can hold your breath a little longer, whose ears ***** up at the rustle of a field-mouse, who know where the slow-worm hides, where the swift builds its nest year after year, where the barn-owl drops pellets that can be soaked and unwrapped to discover the tiny skeletons of voles and shrews....... I know. I've been there and done it with my family. TVs and X-boxes and clothes and anything money can buy are nothing by comparison. NB. P r i c k up obviously doesn't get past the swear filter, hence the **** - lol. -

+1 As I said on an earlier post, learning to be content with whatever one has, either much or little, is the true measure of wealth. All else is vanity.
