  1. Interesting but as you say still way overpriced.

For an asking price of £275k (and offer well below £250k) you can buy this which is on the Southbourne Overcliff and it has seaviews. So far as one can tell it is a reasonable conversion (or is it a new build?) but has been on the market for months and has been reduced from £335k! The top two floors is currently "under offer" @ £335k Another £100k off these prices and they will start to become sensible.

My monitoring of the Southbourne / Hengistbury Head areas over the last few months has thrown up other similar drops and there will be many more to come. New properties are appearing daily with very little actually selling.

  2. I have been interested to read the comments from the locals in the B'Mouth area..... I have known the area since the 1950s and spent a lot of time particularly around Southbourne and agree with the comments about how pleasant it is! I hope at some time to be able to move close to the area but that is for the future.

I also note the negative comments regarding the Honeycombe Chine development and fully agree......Has anyone got firm info as to how the flats are selling - have the £1m++ penthouses sold yet I wonder? When I walked past the other week I wasn't much impressed by either the colour scheme or the apparent physical finish - the winter storms can be quite heavy even on the sunny South Coast. Are the "basic" flats selling?

On a more general point I have been watching the Southbourne area on Property Bee for the last couple of months or so and there are now quite reasonable reductions appearing. There appears to be a glut of flats (new and conversions) available, particularly around the Overcliff Drive area, which has always been a "favoured" location. and there also appear to be a large number of detached for sale in the Southbourne / Boscome area with many drops, even around the "desirable" Hengistbury Head area.

  3. From my knowledge of the area in general I would also add that during the summer season the traffic can be a nightmare particlarly getting into and out of the centre of Bournemouth for shopping etc, with parking in short supply. The local bus service is fairly extensive and well used and if / when I look for a house in the area the proximity to a reliable bus service will be a priority.

Are the flats selling? - It would need to be a brave / foolhardy person to buy at present unless you are an all year round surfer who is attracted by an artifical reef (and with a very large wallet)!

  5. STA - The asterisks mean :

*Offers available on selected properties for a limited period only and subject to normal George Wimpey terms and conditions.

So not a lot of help really. I suspect if I bothered to search their web site I could find more however I am not interested! We STR in June 07 and are now happy to be on the property sidelines......

  6. Been lurking for far too long but thought this worth posting...... I received this offer via Rightmove today - it certainly begs the question as to the price paid and lodged with the LR, and the various "cashbacks".

Dear XXXXX this message was sent to you by rightmove.co.uk on behalf of George Wimpey as our records indicate that their Cheltenham Collection in Gloucestershire may be of interest to you. If you have problems viewing this message you can view it online instead.
