Mutual organization

Building Societies are mutual organisations. They are run for the benefit of their customers whether savers or borrowers. A mutual organisation has no share holders and thus does not have to pay a dividend. In theory, as they do not have to pay a dividend Building Societies should offer lower mortgages and higher interest rates than Banks.
