HPC Definition

To aid discussion, a HPC scale was proposed by dohousescrashinthewoods in the News Blog, with some additions by night:

House price Inflation (HPI) relative to inflation/RPI:

  • -75%+ : Frenzy
  • -20 to -50 : Bubble
  • -15 to -20% : Growth
  • -10 to -15% : Upturn
  • -5 to -10% : Recovery
  • -5 to 5%  : Stagnation (parts of the North are here)
  • 5 to 10% : Correction
  • 10 to 15%: Slump
  • 15 to 20%: Decline (parts of the US are here)
  • 20 to 50%: Crash
  • 50 to 75%: Meltdown (on this scale, sub-prime may has, to date, been over-egged)
  • 75%+  : Collapse
