Financial advisers
Financial advisers come in several forms such as commission based or fee based. The fee based financial advisers should be independent as you are paying for this advice. Some financial advisers are also tied to particular institutions and thus will only offer products from this institutions which may be worse than those from another institution.
It is up to you to make sure you know how the sales man is being paid!! Once you know how the sales man makes his money then you can decide if they are going to offer you a good product/advice, or simply one that makes them more profit.
Financial advisers came in for a lot of criticism for miss-selling pensions and endowment mortgages.
