Credit rating agency

Credit rating agency are companies that review the risk associated with certain types of debt e.g. when paid they issue a risk rating for say securitised sub-prime debt.

During the sub-prime crises their were accusations that the credit ratings agencies gave out a favourable low risk (AAA) grade certificate to high risk debt and made significant profit from such practice.
