What an incredibly sad day for UK politics

House prices will go down if you vote Ukip

"Conservative candidate Kelly Tolhurst says homeowners fear a win for Ukip because it will tarnish the area" . "The danger is if you vote Ukip, the value of your house will go down," said Charles Walker, the Con MP for Broxbourne, who was campaigning in the town this afternoon". ( I don't care if you like UKIP or not - this isn't the way to encourage people to vote on the issues of this country). The article goes on to give house prices in the area. FFS!

  • Vote UKIP and your house will drop in value.

Seems true to me. UKIP gets rid of the foreign swine and they can’t take their homes with them. Nor would they want them because they can sell them to us on 30 year mortgages and buy country mansion style pads at home.

On an unrelated note, I earwigged this couple talking behind me this morning while waiting for the bus (chauffeur was sick). One of them said if I didn’t know better I would think London was in a bubble, …but we just came out of a recession…..

This is random reinforcement of my own opinion.

Not sure about that, most home owners actually want house prices to drop, so their children can buy one. They feel they have done well enough out of it.

    They think it’s all over…

HPW that is exactly what I would like house prices halved (I know I`m dreaming)so not only my children but all children have a chance to buy . Seems so simple not.

  • But that’s also the reason the boomers want their house prices to stay high so they have something to pass down when they die.

  • @5 khards “boomers”

Feel the resentment to a generation that did what most people would have done. Buy a house and live in it!

Its the Government at the time and thereafter that pulls the strings.

  • Show me a boomer that does not want their house price high, so the ‘wealth’ can either be extracted by them or ‘passed down’.

  • It’s interesting to hypothesise what prices would do if somehow it were possible (it isn’t) to engineer a net emigration. Considering the amount of cheap money aimed at housing, I suspect it would have to be a big exodus to make a change in the short term.

  • @7 khards
What I was trying to put across is that the “Boomer” had little or no control on house prices.

Its probably fair to say that most just bought a house to live in and prices went up.

Should the government, then and after, have controlled the rate of house prices?

Should your resentment be towards the government or those who bought when prices were affordable?

Bitterness is what drives much of the opinion here. Its a shame because this biterness squeezes out rational thought and eventually defines an individual. I have no doubt that this bitterness extends way beyond these pages. Make no mistake, mental and physical illness is one of the many consequences of our perniciously inadequate housing policy. This effect was first recognised during the first world war when the army complained that poorly housed urban recruits were in genetally poor condition. Now, 100 years later, studies are coming out showing the same thing. My own observation is that this time its not just the working classes who are being victimised by inadequate housing. For want of a better term, its also the white lower-middle class who are suffering. I might be wrong but this site is mostly an outlet for the newly disposed white lower-middle classes.

  • Probably the same person who stole the Ukrainian gold. It’s tough luck coz they stole it from the Mayans in the first place.

  • I think people have been getting banned from here and elsewhere long before I showed up. I first got accused of owning this site about 5 years ago and its been a pretty regular occurrence ever since. I’ve also been accused of being, amongst many other things, a senior member of the Labour party ( my personal favourite). For some reason it always gives me a mental picture of a bloke wearing baggy string pants and an old Parka, furiously bashing away at his keyboard. I dont think I can be blamed for having a bit of fun with it. This latest piece of hilarity reminds me of the legendary chav war cry ” its not my fault innit”. I think I’m safe in saying that people only get banned for persistently poor behaviour, so unless I owned this site (or could I be going for a quintuple bluff here), I couldn’t cause anyone to get banned unless they behaved badly over and over again. I’m going to issue the middle class war cry here of ” learn to take responsibility for your actions”.

Anyway, off to a meeting now. Got to update some of the charts on the front page and hire some new moderators.

  • Given that Generation Rent numbers in their millions, isn’t this precisely WHY they would want to vote UKIP?!?!?

Eventually the house-owners in the generations above will fade away or downsize anyway.

But right now, Generation Rent WANTS house-prices to drop.

So these scare-tactics are surely only directed at people who care more about house-prices than their children.

  • Wow. Did you really read my “going to a meeting” like that? I’ve had my suspicions but it’s become very apparent that you generally only understand 40% or so of what’s written.

This is the second time in a week that I’ve felt uneasy about who I might be talking to.
