Get rid of VAT, at least raise the threshold to say, £250,000 turnover, even if you breach the threshold, and suddenly sales will boom.

Yes, but how does the government get the revenue to pay all those civil servants and unmarried mums (not to mention bank bailouts or MP's expenses)?
Even if sales boom, the ebay (and Starbucks and Amazon) profits will be filtered off to the Netherlands, Ireland etc., etc
