BBC: Serco announces job losses at Hook office
Outsourcing group Serco has announced it is to cut 500 jobs, mostly at its UK head office in Hampshire.

yeah..I've got a great idea...why not actually employ the people directly,then you can control costs and ensure work is carried out

This type of business is as parasitic as EA's, bankers and politicians.

This is why Councils should be focusing on small local firms for contracts. Mega corporations tend to outsource and downsize, whilst small firms tend to stay the same or expand.

In reality tho, this explains why Council's should get out of the business of running services. Bin collection, for example would be far cheaper and better service if it were provided privately (as happens now for commercial), and if Westminster didn't regulate it so much.

This already happens in my neck of the woods (Calderdale), the service is far more reliable than when it was run directly by the council.
