Top stuff, one fatal error...
Guardian: Land value taxation: a genuine alternative
"5. Finally, be aware that in shifting taxes away from work and enterprise and onto unearned income, you will be striking at the very foundations of elite wealth and privilege. This is not something to be afraid of. Indeed, in a democracy, it should be a very strong selling point." His BIG mistake is not to include bold capitals underlined "OF COURSE PENSIONERS' MAIN RESIDENCES WOULD BE EXEMPT" without which this idea will never fly, politically. Ah well.

UT, this is a democracy.
If the vast majority of the population realised that they'd be far better off with Land Value Tax than with income tax, VAT, National Insurance, corporation tax, SDLT, council tax, inheritance tax etc etc etc, then why wouldn't they vote for it?
The only real losers would be senior bankers, property speculators, politicians and very large landowners (and I mean urban, not agricultural landowners).
What's not to like?

Because no one TRUSTS the government to replace all these taxes with LVT. It would be an additional levy!

Mark Wadsworth says 'very large landowners (and I mean urban, not agricultural landowners).'
Why not agricultural land owners?

I thought point 2 pertinent: in effect the taxation of economic rent.
UT: "The new loons of the left"
A pity the loons on the left and the loons on the right can't annihilate each other in a particle-antiparticle collision.

Dart6911, Because of maths!
Ag land is worth 1% as much as developed land or land with planning.
So even thought there is ten times as much ag land as developed land, it is only worth a tenth as much
This is all very round figures, by the way.
