Here's one on employment for you Mark.
Oh, sorry, I forgot, you only salivate over job losses.

"Those in part-time work increased by 166,000 quarter-on-quarter to 7.9 million in the three months to July. But the number of full-time workers soared by 121,000 to 21.2 million in an encouraging sign for the UK labour market."
2% more part timers = an increase, 0.5% more full timers = soaring. I wonder how Sky news would describe a 0.5% fall? Collapse?

We had to have the garage door repaired. The repairman called "smugdog" told us that one of our problems was that we did not have a 'large' enough motor on the opener.
I thought for a minute, and said that we had the largest one made at that time, a 1/2 horsepower. He shook his head and said, 'Lady, you need a 1/4 horsepower.'
I responded that 1/2 was larger than 1/4 and he said, 'NOOO, it's not. Four is larger than two..'
We haven't used smugdog to repair since.

"The record-breaking leap is due largely to the number of those classed as "economically inactive" - such as students - taking jobs".
In other news, Poundland - buoyed by record profits last year - increases its workforce with recent graduates to bolster its weekend retail staff.
"Meanwhile the closely watched Jobseeker's Allowance claimant count rose by an unexpected 2,300 to 1.47 million".
D'oh, own goal; the keeper can only hold his head in his hands; a torrid display today.

It would be wrong to welcome a rise in unemployment. I certainly don't and I do not believe any contributors to this site do so either, your frequent (and, by and large, unanswered) suggestions to the contrary notwithstanding. It is, however, legitimate to question where the demand needed to bolster a flagging property market will come from when the employment figures keep pointing the wrong way.
