Express: OVERGROWN TREES COVER HOUSE

Mr Alvand had to cut a path through the 16 giant cypress leylandii trees that dwarf the semi-detached houses so the postman could get to his door.

The neighbours should erect a mobile network antenna in their garden and develop a passion for drum & bass music. See if he complains.

"It’s my land" - Yes, but in a country where people live cheek-by-jowl, some restrictions on what you can do with your land are necessary to prevent abuses like this.

That's what he is growing outside the house mark, but do you have the article on what he is growing within it.

A hemp kitchen?

It's my ambition to plant a California Redwood in the middle of my back garden, and then live long enough for it to really annoy the neighbours. According to Wikipedia the largest ones are 380ft tall and 26ft diameter. But I shall have to buy a house first.

The article says the house owner is a "civil engineer" (yet more proof that this is a contradiction in terms). If he is, then clearly a very poor one - tree roots so close to houses and ignoring planning permission. If the council had any balls they would send in a team with chain-saws when the owner was out and post him the bill.

monty032 - how about a tree house, which would give you the best of both worlds?

Funny in a way, but sad in others - the guy's obviously a sandwich short of a picnic, and the neighbours have to put up with him..

You wouldn't want to own the house next door, but you might be amused to rent it.
