Capitalism is hierarchical - big capitalists on top, little capitalists at the bottom - the big capitalists on top, individuals and companies, get to control the hierarchy eg the problem with getting LVT implemented. That's not free, the guy above controls the guy below. This in turn gives the guy on top advantage for more opportunity over the guy below. An assortment of industries provides some opportunty to compete in discrete vertical channels, but the finance industry breaks horizontally through the boundaries of the industries reducing that opportunity in favour of financiers. "Free market capitalism" might be "market capitalism", but the "free" bit is either just marketing, or refers only to the trading aspect, ignoring the society aspect, which might just sum up capitalism.

With the amount I stand to make off with when all this is over, I imagine a whole range of colourful pussies will be queuing to be stroked ;) Although if the meltdown doesn't get it's skates on I may well be bald by that time, just like a real Bond villain.

Only the dim.....any sentient being, or soul with even a trace of empathy for their brothers, watched in horror as the century's social advancements for the many was rolled back by an old cowboy and a little Englander with a bad hairdo and rocks in her handbag (....and a space where the grey matter usually resides.)
The boomers have become a paranoid, selfish bunch - determined to amass much more than they can use in a lifetime, whilst trying their best to ensure that the recipients of their share of the gene pool are blessed with the 'benefit' of their tax advisors - they are old enough to know the difference between 'price' and 'value'.
I'm still enjoy the beauty of life, but increasingly the stench of self interest in my age group makes me feel it will be a better world when the old crones (my generation and older) who run the show, die.
History suggests a repeat of the 'Old Wien' scenario - and the stupid thing is it could be avoided - but if they wouldn’t give it up, the young will have to take it forcibly

NZ is an extreme neo-liberal country. This is like Glen Beck admitting he was misguided.
I know I'm relatively new here, but I'm just saying.
These comment boards seem to be getting odd. Too many in jokes and snide swipes (way over my head). I don't think you really want to bung up your your own site with obscure frivolity.
Whatever happened to rationale discourse and stay on topic?

Morning Slarti, you were up early! I don't know how long you've been reading, but occasionally the comments get wonderfully bizarre. I for one can't do inflation vs deflation 24/7/365 year after year. Keep posting and reading, you'll learn people's interests and selective reading.
