“Shoppers need to make sure they don’t become complacent now the recession is over, as the battle to save money is still very much on.”
Sigh

The 'recession' is so yesterday...
Not only am I noticing prices going up but I'm also noticing quality going down, especially on meat. What are they feeding the animals on these days, sawdust?

I have noticed that Sainsburys is now cheaper than Tesco on many items, and that is regular prices, not overpriced then reduced via some offer prices.
It pays to shop around.

No other animals & steroids, i have not touched the meat in this country for 10 years...like the housing market poor quality & fu*king expensive..

Low quality = high profit margin + high prices
High quality = low profit margin + high prices

A grandma sitting in church writes a note to her husband:
"I just let out a silent fart. What should I do?"...
He writes back, "Put a new battery in your hearing aid."

Problem is most people don't know what good quality food tastes like they have been weaned on bland supermarket pap.

FOOD BONANZA AS PRICES SOAR!
Clear signs that the recession is over were evident today as it was widely reported that prices paid for food in the UK have increased by as much as 57% in some areas despite the doom and gloom of some forecasts. The price rise is a clear signal that we are over the worst of the recession and consumers can look forward to steadily increasing prices from now on.
The "homeowning" Tory voting tabloid reading masses must be feeling increasingly confident as yet another essential (other than a roof over ones head) has "ticked upwards". Oh, you don't own a supermarket? Well, you should have thought of that when you decided to rent...errr...or something...

1)Don't whatever you do buy a tub of Morroccan Hummous from Sainsburys as it is bloody awful. 2)Has anyone else noticed that tomatos from supermarkets never taste of anything and even if you pay three quid for two extra special taste the Jamie Oliver type they are still s#it. 3)What about the salt/fat content of the stuff they are selling us? It's a stroke in a plasic container! All to suit the uber profit machine and the just in time supply chain.

Not forgetting the trend to reduce pack or portion sizes to kid the shopper that prices are not increasing.

Screw buying a house - I'm going for a large field. Worst comes to worst, I can live in my tent and live from what the land produces either grown or trapped. Might need to keep some money for a concrete wall and some guns if things get much worse.

17:thebulltrap - I have looked at this recently.
1. You can't leagally live on your own field for more than 28 days with out planning permission
2. Farm land prices are at an all time high between £8000 to £10,000 per acre
Jobsworths paid by the government and backed by NIMBYS areonly to happy to turn up with a bulldozer and turf you off your own land.
'field to farm' is a good book to get started with this, I can't afford even this anymore due to being priced out of this too!
Farm land sold at these prices are currently rented for 1% to 2% return by investors.

VALUE ENGINEERING.... My company has been working with food manufacturers for years on this. Constantly making products slightly smaller, changing the packaging, giving you six items in a packet instead of five, but together they weigh less....
How on earth do you think they can argue that prices are coming down??? it's because they are coming down, per pack,,,, but not by weight.
You should buy everything by the gram and not by the unit. It's the only way you know what you are paying for...

Again, 'Hyperinflation, food shortages.'
Buying small forests will become popular and perhaps underground bunkers within those.

Mark,
Seems we finally agree on something. Local food is loads better because fresher. needn't cost more either. This summer I've been going to a pick your own farm, for fruit and some veg. The same basket of goods costs at least twice as much in the cheapest supermarkets (A and T) and up to three times as much at the more expensive ones (S and W - highest). As oil prices continue to climb, local will be the way to go...

So rising prices = end of recession?
Are these idiots smoking crack? - Haven't they ever heard of stagflation?
Don't worry poor peeps - the rich toffs might own the supermarkets, but we know how to steal from them! When push comes to shove all the money in the world won't stop a hungry mob.

Nickb when have we disagreed?
