Sky News: PM: More Chinese Tourists 'Will Create Jobs'
Cameron continues to show his naivety. "High-profile events such as the Champions' League final, the Rugby League World Cup and the Commonwealth Games will all tempt holidaymakers to the UK, he added."
Whilst I personally follow both codes of Rugby, I don't think either has much of a following in China!

10,000 retail/tourism jobs at NMW? Get in there; the recovery is well and truly locked-in. Now all we need is to get the Moldovans and Andorrans over here and it's happy-days.

@SLC
You're overlooking the half a million or so ethnic Hungarians currently living in the Ukraine who, having Hungarian citizenship and that country being an EU member, are entitled to come to the UK.
As you say, happy days.
Thats not an intended insult to Hungary or it's citizens before anyone accuses me of racism or some other thought crime.

Is this the new 'big idea'?
Having disposed of the manufacturing and exporting basis for the economy, in favour of becoming the finance centre of the world, which has now gone down the drain. Do we now look for countries with huge populations and blame our economic woes upon them for not coming here as tourists? I know that elements of the political 'elite' are pretty dim but this ranks as idiocy beyond belief.
has recapcha been stolen?

And it's actually complete tosh as there's lots of evidence that 'events' like this have a negative impact on tourism driving people away who would otherwise come, this was true of South Africa recently and will certainly be true of London 2012.
Who wants to visit London when it'll be in security / VIP lockdown? The whole charade will be unbearable. Personally I'm going to make sure I'm as far away as possible,

If the Chinese do come, then at least we'll be able to get by, by shining their shoes for them!

Gaining 0.5% of the market in international tourism could create 50,000 jobs but only selling crisps and hot dogs on Saturday afternoons you waste of an Eaton education! Lord help us!

This is how many of the great empires have ended - they become tourist destinations - nothing more. Greece, Rome, Egypt etc. Doesn't bode well............

DC might have an agenda here, and could be guarding his back against a Labour charge of being soft on immigration..
..Chinese tourism is getting very big, but the UK is not getting a share. Why? - Because they can't get visa's. Why? - Because while the last govt was soft on the import of Brazilian rent boys to pleasure the likes of m'lord Mandelson; the 'wimmin' in the last govt ensured that any single asian female who applied for a visa was assumed to be a tart - and refused.
I know - some wealthy female professional Chinese business contacts of mine were summarily refused visas to visit the UK, (even though they had visited before) but were subsequently granted them when I pointed out they were married. It was very embarrassing, and wasted a lot of my time..
