Paradigm shift....

The Telegraph: It's good news that house prices are falling

Oh dear, oh dear – house prices are falling again. According to a survey of chartered surveyors, the housing market weakened in July for the first time in a year, and Lloyds HBOS now expects prices to be flat this year.

That's a lovely article, except for this particularly vile bit of home-Owner-Ist cant:

"we live in a small island with tight building restrictions"

The Island of GB is huge and not overcrowded in the slightest, it just appears crowded to the 90% who live in urban areas, hemmed in by the fanatical Hallowed Green Belt worshippers. And building restrictions are not a fact of life, they are entirely artificial and deeply damaging.

I've taken to showing people google earth with all the data overlays turned off. They seem surprised and think it must be a trick. I show them this years official stats and the report on land use and how perception of overcrowding doesn't fit the reality and they start to come around.

Even in Cornwall where we have lots of land I even had one county councillor suggesting that it even worse down here because it goes thin at the end and naturally that means there is less space..... WTF

"continuing low interest rates are vital to forestall a sharp downturn in house prices...."

more homeOwnerist delusion, exposing the flawed belief that rising house prices make us richer.

It is to be hoped that the UK property market will become more stable, but if this doesn't happen, the next best thing is to pretend that it has. Unless you are in the uncomfortable position of being a first-time buyer or a forced seller, price fluctuations really don't matter all that much.

oh! I get it, lets pretend everything is okay.... brilliant journalism

lets pretend it's okay that some people get shafted in wonderland
