A Japanese economist said Japan is facing deflation because shop keeping seller cheap stuffs!

Japan Times: Fast fashion is not what's ailing Japan's economy

Not sure if will be the future of Britain. But blaming shop for selling cheap things and cause deflation is definitely a novel theory to me.

It's not a new idea. See Depressed by Government

Search for the text "Who were the Schechters" and read about the insanity of the National Recovery Act.

The deflationary impact of globalization (in the form of cheap imports and increased labour competition) is actually a very widely discussed topic. I'm not sure why you feel the need to introduce this article with an "Engrish" title that misrepresents the content. The article itself is written in perfect English.

Used to live in Japan (and am now married to a Japanese person) and this seems a pretty accurate article to me. One detail that isn't mentioned is that most young people relocate to the cities for jobs and live in apartments that can be as small as six square metres (yes, really!). Going out and buying stuff endlessly then poses real storage and space issues. It's also very expensive to throw out anything that's not basic kitchen waste.

I've read a good article about how Japan is destined to be completely overshadowed by China, becoming a Canada while they develop to be an America. It's only a matter of time I think.

One other point that is rarely mentioned is that Japan is a small, mountaineous island, with very little good land for building on. After peaking in 1990, house prices there spiralled down for 17 years. Anyone who says UK house prices have to remain high because this is a small island is wrong!

@ Easy-gag-man - I am not certain about your ability to write perfectly english but looks like you cannot understand the article which, in your words, was written in perfect english. The article talks about an economist who blames a fashion retailer for Japan's deflation. It is a bit like blaming Tesco for causing deflation because Tesco sells cheap stuffs.

By the way, care to use your usual ID rather than a one off id ? (assuming you are HPC regular ?)
