Any connection with this article? Daily Mail: The Great Inertia Sector: A whistleblower's account of council work where staff pull six-month sickies

(For the record, I've been into a number of local authorities in my previous job and they were all efficient and hard-working. These were highly-rated by the Audit Commission though.)

nope, we have been fighting a development for 3 years, the council have "lost info" , noise figures "have become corrupted", several people involved took very early retirement after the planning was passed, the neighbouring council threatened our council with legal action, the letter from the neighbouring council not far off accuses our council of total corruption, the council continually lie, they claim to each person complaining there is only 1 person complaining, we stood in a group had someone call the council to complain about noise, an issue we have all complained about concerning the same supermarket site, he was told "you are the only person complaining" the local paper has been involved, yet the council still spew rubbish to us all, as if we are fools..

It seems standard practice in our council to tell lies and fob people off.

forgot to say the environmental officer informed the company he would be assessing the noise from their site prior to installing the equipment in residential area to assess the noise pollution, as you can imagine it was the quietest two weeks since the site was built..

this is no use if you want to monitor noise pollution.

This is a request for a new law not the repeal of an old one! It's funny - if you ask people what laws they would do away with, they can never think of anything.

cyril,

Most people don't know the law until it affects them personally. Then they are quick to learn. Same with schools, hospitals, etc. - it's only when you have kids / fall ill that you learn how the system works.

I'm sure there is no corruption in the planning departments, where the value of planning permission is half the value of the property. Nobody would be tempted by that.

You have my sympathy but it would be news if councils weren't corrupt.

You have to be corrupt to exist with the system.

For one thing, council workers take the wages but betray the trust of the Public.

If I worked in the NHS, I would be committed to saving as many lives as possible.
If I worked for the Council, I would get the best value for tax-payers.

Needless to say, one way or another I would be out...redundant...put on other work...the subject of suspension...etc. etc.

The goal of top council workers is the high benefits, rolling contracts, golden handshakes, golden ballons on sacking etc.

Even Housepricecrash is showing signs of corruption, as comments are doctored and censored for improper reasons.

Almost like the civil service...
