Be careful what you wish for
The Guardian: Cabinet ministers have been ordered by the Treasury to plan for unprecedented cuts of 40%
Cabinet ministers have been ordered by the Treasury to plan for unprecedented cuts of 40% in their departmental budgets as the coalition widens the scope of its four-year austerity drive.
The eye-watering demand from the chief secretary to the Treasury, Danny Alexander, was sent this weekend to cabinet colleagues ahead of a week in which ministers will step up emergency cost-cutting across the public sector.

2 Questions.
1. Where does this 40% figure come from? Why is it not 42.4%?
2. A 40% cut in anything involves turning the lights off in various parts. Which departments are going to get their lights turned off? DWP? HMRC? Treasury? Good luck with that.

Don't believe it, it's reported in the Guardian! (Irony)
I'm not commenting on whether the article is right or wrong. I'm highlighting the hypocrisy of the comments we would have had if this had been a Mail, Express or Telegraph article.

Jeeze. I know Tony Blairs police escort are taking the p*ss according to the Mail on Sunday...but this is a serious consideration of saying farewell social fabric.Hope the Tory voting public sector bashers on here are happy with this...the caveat to their celebrations being that the purpose of wrecking what is left of our frayed social bonds will be to "keep interest rates lower for longer"...thereby decreasing any meaninful HPC in buy to let or any other sector of the property market. An unemployed public sector worker is as likely to try to hang onto house as anyone else...cheaper that paying rent you might think (especially with cuts to HB of course!)
Off your knees people of Briatin...Time to riot and burn the Etonians!

I'm sure more than 40% of public money is spent on usless inefficient managment in the civil service. Bring on the cuts!
