No way i thought inflation was low in the UK, the BOE keep telling us that
Dailymail: UK families face highest inflation in Western World as food prices rocket and pound plunges
Its figures for May, picked up a 20per cent increase on both cauliflowers and cucumbers. There was a 26per cent rise on a pack of mixed peppers.

cauliflower, cucumbers & peppers all come from the UK.
IE sold in sterling.
Funny they should have gone up so much.
Growing glass house crops generally uses alot of fuel (oil) but the price of that hasn't particularly increased in the last 6 months.
Maybe it's the fact that oil is purchased in dollars and the £ has dropped against that.
Seems off to pick these items though.

In my view. if we exported more stuff and spent less on expensive public services, the pound might go back up and we wouldn't have all this inflation caused by the drop in the £. An increase in interest rates to support our currency might help too.
I don't think the problem is caused by teenagers smoking the occasional joint or over 70's watering geraniums. That's just divisive stuff put out by journalists to sell papers.
Perhaps a change in the way we run our country is the way forward....I await the budget.

Anyway, its food director, Andrew Opie, informs us that 'UK food prices are consistently lower than other EU countries. The inflation rate doesn’t tell you about actual prices.'
If, as I suspect, he's trying to tell us that statistics sometimes lie, I'll have to begin questioning the monthly house price figures.
PS Again on the question of sloppy dailymoan spelling v stunningly appropriate prose, what are we to make of 'One reason for the increase is the fact that British supermarkets *impose* large quantities of food from overseas'?

Don't worry about trivialities such as food prices.
House price inflation hit 8.5% in England and Wales according to the Bullsh*t Broadcating Commissariat earlier this week, therefore everyone feels wealthier and things were never brighter!

str 2007. Stuff grown in the UK can go up in price because the competition from imports has been hobbled by our devalued currency. Case in point is the price of lamb which our pounds can no longer buy more cheaply from New Zealand and so the farmers here are able to put their prices up.
