Ouch, 25 years to pay back the bailout lol... well we all knew they were the leeches of society... seems we were proved right. What a waste of space the financial capital is.

"Between 1997 and 2009, almost a third of lending was between banks. Half went to individuals, mainly on mortgages that fuelled the housing bubble; manufacturing received just 3% of the pie; other business loans accounted for only 17%. Since the crash, net lending to business has fallen by £40bn."

!!

So what would the housing market look like if banks concentrated on investing in productive capacity? I didn't realise that the national obsession with chasing the property market had infected the banks to that extent.

@chrisch - it is amazing how the use of the term "banker bashing' is now being used to make us all feel sorry for the put-upon banks and their hardworking and honest employees, deserving of their huge pay-outs , when infact we need more articles like this and more television programs like Dispatches tomorrow night, to ensure the 'banksters' don't get away with it, and don't ensure another, much bigger crisis further down the lione, just to put more zeros on their salary and into their bank accounts (all off-shore , to be sure)

Never has any institution been so deserving. Keep on Bashing.

We're yet to understand the full effect or damage of what has been done. We may never know. But it's going to be hard for a few years to come, still.
