Baby boomers to rob the next generation of their jobs too.

Daily Record.co.uk: Government accused of class bias over plans to raise retirement age to 70

I can't see how this helps. Surely the more old people forced to hang onto their job to pay taxes, the more young people unable to find work and contribute to the tax take.

How does it affect the poor more ? Surely retiring later gives them the chance to save up more money.

Had the retirement age been 66 and they tried to change it to 65 people would bleat that their pension funds hadn't enough in it to retire so soon

PD, nope. The more people are in work the better (that's higher economic output, less pensions to pay, and hence a disproportionately lowe per centage tax burden on work) . Or maybe we could hike the retirement age to 75 and all work a three day week.

PD nope nope. Every person in work creates demand through their spending that creates other jobs. There is not a finite number of jobs but a finite number of qualified people willing and able to work.

If that is the case, then there shouldn’t be poverty in Cambodia, Ethopia and other third world countries, simply their governments just need to create civil servant jobs.

But the question is who is going to pay them? Is the products or services they provide have economic value or marketable?
