Apparently HIPS are part of EU legislation anyway so there's probably little that can be done to get rid of them. Mind you under EU rules countries are supposed to keep their budget deficits below 3% but hey lets get these things in perspective, must adhere to the important rules!

This is like a bunch of turkeys arguing that Christmas might be cancelled this year..

HIPs amount to less than 0.2% of the cost of the average first time buyer house... it's irrelevant whether they're scrapped or not.

I think some essential elements of the HIP should be kept, but a lot of it which would be irrelevant to a new buyer thrown away.
The property register and local authority searches have been the mains items of interest to me. It has saved me a lot of time and I have been able to eliminate properties sooner rather than later. One classic example was a very nice and well priced house. Problem was that the garden had a restriction placed on it by an electricity company meaning that you couldn't plant trees or erect structures such as a greenhouse. I would have been annoyed if this was only highlighted by a solicitor by which time I would have lost 300+ quid!

Spot on in these times of austerity, unless they can come up with something more expensive.
We shall see whats in our stockings as a filler next year.
