BBC: Cameron announces audit of 'crazy' Labour spending

David Cameron has announced an audit of the government's books after finding examples of "crazy" spending decisions in Labour's last year in power. The prime minister told BBC One's Andrew Marr show the review would be launched on Monday by the new Office of Budget Responsibility. (No surprise to HPC site)

"Office of Budget Responsibility"

Wow, he's named an Office after a slogan, in the mould of tin-pot dictators the world over.

I'm absolutely shocked that he's describing Labour's spending as 'crazy' - who would have imagined it.

Go, "Crazy" Dave! Get stuck in on the performance related pay of hospital managers old chap...and whilst you're about it perhaps you'd remind yourself whose "Crazy" idea it was to fire all the NHS managers in the eighties then hire them all back the following day on outsourced contracts but at 200% increase in rate of pay and wife as secretary to newly formed "consultancy"....errr, one of the great "free market" initiatives that saved the country last time under your much lauded predecessor Mrs Thatcher, as I recall. Don't worry though, we know that as an Eaton educated "liberal conservative" you must have extensive experience of the benefits of a welfare state and you only have a mild pathalogical aversion to the NHS.

Completely lightweight.

David Cameron has announced an audit of the government's books after finding examples of "crazy" spending decisions in Labour's last year in power.

The prime minister told BBC One's Andrew Marr show the review would be launched on Monday by the new Office of Budget Responsibility.

He also announced a crackdown on top civil service bonuses.

And he reassured Lib Dems that deputy prime minister Nick Clegg would be part of the "inner core" of his government.

Mr Cameron said the budget for performance-related pay for NHS managers and senior civil servants for 2010/11 will be cut by two-thirds, saving £15m.

We believe that spending should bear the brunt of the burden in terms of cutting the deficit
Prime Minister David Cameron

The prime minister said: "What we have seen so far are just individual examples of very bad procedures and bad behaviour, spending decisions taken in the last year or so of the Labour government that no rational government would have done - giving something like 75% of senior civil servants bonuses after everything that's happened in the current year.

"That's not a fiscal stimulus. It is a crazy thing to do. We are beginning to find individual decisions like that."

In a statement, the Cabinet Office said only the top 25% of performers would receive a bonus so in future only those making an "exceptional contribution" would be rewarded.

There is no £160 Billion deficit. THIS FIGURE IS COMPLETELY WRONG. THE DEFICIT IS MUCH MUCH HIGHER!!!!!

Looks to me like Dave and co, do not want to tell everyone what the markets already know.........

That the deficit is much much higher............

Of course most of the spending in government isn't seen by Eton alumni who have inherited vast sums of wealth and whose own wife is described by himself as "quite unconventional" for going to a day school.

I'm not joking.

I am definitely spending my money before I die when I sell the export company I started. I'll also send my children to a bad school, and not help them too much with their homework. I just don't want them to be hated by the envious. Either that or we go to the US where everyone aspires to succeed and they congratulate those who have made it and hope to work hard and get there too.
