Spending cuts to be deepest since 1970s
BBC: Spending cuts to be deepest since 1970s, IFS says
Based on commitments made so far, the Liberal Democrats would need to cut an accumulated £51bn from spending on public services by 2017.
Labour's plans would require a slightly smaller cut during that time of £47bn, the IFS said, while the Conservatives would cut by the largest amount - £57bn.

No increase in public spending for at least 7 years.

Even though they may make spending cuts of ~50bn they will still need to cut a further ~120bn just to be able to start paying back the shockingly huge debt Labour has created. I say forget about new Trident nuclear submarines (costing 100bn over several years) and so voting Labour or Conservative would be a bad idea since they both support Trident.

Yes, if The Daily Moan running this story with the picture of a jovial Gordon Brown is anything to go by.

The Libdems have an appalling record in local government. Cleggs own constituency has the highest band d council tax in South Yorkshire. Also look at Lim dem run Liverpool council - ranked bottom of a list of 352 councils by an independent commission. This lot are worse than Brown when it comes to the question of money. To top it off expect a bond rout or an economy in free fall or both if there is a hung parliament. Yes that's right you've got it - work all night or go the local soup kitchen.

I'm no big Lib Dem fan, but how high council tax is depends largely on how much money Whitehall sends the council, and not how much the council spends.

Real GDP in the UK doubles inside of 30 years. We are apparently therefore, in terms of actual economic activity, twice as well off as we were in 1980. Why then, are we being told that we will not be able to afford to maintain basic public services, that we are living beyond our means etc.? The people who run the banking system should be held accountable for their actions, running a system whereby we are all in debt slavery for perpetuity.

"running a system whereby we are all in debt slavery for perpetuity"
The wealth has become so concentrated now that it's like the end stages of a game of monopoly - utterly pointless and predictable .
Certainly a monopoly is the natural conclusion of free markets . Apparently Mrs Thatchers advisors explained this but it came as quite a shock to her as she thought it would lead to increased competition .
I get the impression that it's got beyond this and debt slavery and insecurity are the tools the people in charge use to control us . The really frightening thing is to ask "to what end" ?
Perhaps it is the intention of the powers that be for the UK to submit to the international community by going cap in hand to the IMF .
The likes of Goldman Sachs , European Union elite etc rely on a lot of people to do their dirty work , selling out the man in the street for 30 pieces of silver .
