Whilst I don't have much time for either the management or union at Royal Mail, I wouldn't call 6.9% over 3 years = 2.3% per annum, an inflation busting increase..

Indeed mr g. The thing about postal and tube workers is that those industries are, but definition dead end jobs. They will never make shed loads and retire early - they have years of graft (if you can call it that - agreed) in the same job in the same industry.

That much should be considered when judging their 'largesse'.

The Mail is stirring it as within the small print there are some rather lucrative details as far as Royal Mail management are concerned including the lifting of the restriction on unaddressed mail which was capped at a maximum of three items per week.

This will turn into a nice little earner for the Post Office and potentially a lot of extra work for the posties on their rounds.

As ever a double edged sword for the workers and a twisted story from the Mail.

I agree with shipbuilder, a 'repulsive rag', I used to light my fire with it.
The deal seems reasonable to me.
The golden days of the postal service are long over, I think they all realize that.

I wondered why my posty has been sporting that new Rolex & lambo she must be due for at least an extra £500 a year on this deal.

Even the boss says it's a good and fair deal. As for "gold-plated", I don't call a real pay cut very golden. The Daily HateMail sums up the typical level of debate in these matters.
