How to spin it?
BBC News: House prices see first fall since June, says Halifax
'says Halifax'
'end of stamp duty relief'
'poor weather'
...all to be expected from the Beeb.
Surprising, however, that 'more properties being put up for sale' was not ignored for the purposes of the article. Let's hope the reporter's editor has a quiet word...

"The drop was caused by the end of stamp duty relief."
Did the same theory of stamp duty relief quoted with such precedence when prices were rising?

Good point, I don't recall that being attached to Decembers figures.
Also houses aren't exactly flying off the shelf now and the snow melted a good 6 weeks ago.
But if the figures are negative next month, no doubt they'll be rolling out the election excuse.
Mind you I don't think they've used the 'end of Quantitative Easing' as an excuse yet either, so they've got plenty of ammo for next months article.

I don't buy the "bad weather" argument.. Looking for a home isn't something you do on a whim, you're either looking for a house or you're not, you don't commit to spending hundreds of thousands of pounds by accident. The weather only stopped most people going out for a day or so.. and guess what, it was winter, it gets cold in winter and houses still (usually) get sold
