The truth is revealed
The Times: Alistair Darling insists that public borrowing is at planned levels
Mr Brown will step up campaigning today with a call on the centre Left to take the fight to right-wing parties across the world. At a conference of centre-left parties in London he will say: “All over the world, the new tactic of the Right is to present themselves as moderate and mainstream. But when the tough questions are asked of them, the truth is revealed. Instead of helping a recovery, their hatred of government action would risk the recovery.
“Instead of defending ordinary families, they would kick the ladder of opportunity away from ordinary families. Instead of supporting middle classes, their policies would hurt the middle classes.”

Is the principle of this 'ladder' similar to the much vaunted housing one.
What 'opportunities' are at the top of it and do we have to borrow pots of money over 25 years to access them!
Does each rung invole borrowing more?
What taxes are involved on each rung of 'opportunity'?
Pettifogging B'stard; where is Alan when you need him!

Marxism always does. Let's finally face it.

The ladder existed between '96 to '07. We've just sat down on one of those 'bumpy' slides. Enjoy the ride down!

And yet again another record broken. Only politicians could try and spin this into a positive story!
We need REAL change in this country - certainly not spin and more bull. Lets have some refreshing honesty and a true connection with the rank and file of ordinary people.
Winterton's comment sums up how out of touch these people are - they have lost the common touch.

Very middle class, very aspirational and before you know it, there'll also be huge windows, if not oceans of opportunity for the new working class, the middle class.

If I ran my household finances the way these idiots run the public finances I would have been bankrupted 5 times over.
The only light at the end of the tunnel is the fact they may be forced to call an early election.

It'll have to be a pretty robust ladder as he is taking an additional £26000 from each taxpayer to pay for it.

The only trouble with the ladders of opportunity is that each throw of the dice brings only a snake!
