Bloomberg: U.K. Posts First January Budget Deficit Since at Least 1993
Government spending exceeded revenue by 4.3 billion pounds ($6.7 billion) last month, the Office for National Statistics said today in London.

Some interesting detail. Tax receipts down 8% . Income tax receipts down 19%, biggest drop on record. Spending up 10%, by £4.4bn, 50% of this extra "spending" is interest payments on debt, so not really spending unless Gordon wants to talk about how public spending has been increasing!
