The Times: Bonus storm as losses hit £7bn at Royal Bank of Scotland
ROYAL BANK OF SCOTLAND is about to announce losses of more than £7 billion for 2009 but will still hand out enormous bonuses to its investment bankers.
The Treasury is expected to approve a total bonus pool of about £1.3 billion despite the expected losses. The move will spark a fresh furore over payments at banks that were bailed out by the taxpayer.

I think it's called offloading the taxpayers treasures before the ship goes down or a new captain emerges.
Better to walk the plank with a safety net.

Although I am yet to decide on who I vote for in the GE, If the treasury do not put a stop to this, I certainly will NOT be voting for Liebor.
The vast majority of people in private industries would expect no bonus if the company made a loss. Surely their contracts do not have caveats allowing bonus payments in these circumstances?! There is something fundamentally wrong with the financial industry, that has been plain and evident for a few years now. So what changes are being made? What regulation has been/is being employed to stop this happening again? I see no evidence.
No accountability. All those in powerful positions able to make the appropriate changes should loose thier jobs, and pensions, and brought to justice for crimes agains the British population. Strip them of their personal wealth made on the back of bringing this country to its knees.

@3. Hey watch out. Expressing your views on here is not the done thing...it's just not the elitist way! A floating voter!...tut tut...you should be blue rinsed through and through...
@1. Now you've been told once before by someone ("it irrates him") that they don't like Greg Pytel being posted in the news blog...tut tut! It's just not cricket old chap...whatever you do don't go padding up to the googly...

@4. 'blue rinsed....' - What makes you think the 'Tory millionaires club members' have the best interests of the public in mind? I'm still not convinced on any of the parties yet.
Sure don't want to vote Liebor. Tories and Libs have no real oportunity to prove themselves. We'll just have to listen hard to what they're all saying. Then once you've sifted out through the lies, and half promises, decide whether what's left actually amounts to anything.
Then, 'A change is as good as a rest', although many just don't like change - 'Better the devil you know'.
The countries in a poor financial state of affairs, HPI increasing (Despite the recession, low salary inflation, and rising unemployment), Banks loosing money but paying out bonuses, and half our politicians have no morals when it comes to their expenses.
Where's the moral compass? Where are the common sense statements? Where is the truth? If the governors don't even accept there are problems (Denial), who the hell is going to get things back on track?

Some common sense from the blues i suppose:-

Doesn't mention that the lib dem's have also suggested changes could be made in coming weeks (According to BBC 10o'clock news).

'Gordon Brown declares: 'Labour can still win: I'm absolutely sure of it''

Extract - 'Brown admits he has had failings, particularly in explaining his policies and thinking.'
Trouble thinking eh! Don't worry, you'll be able to rest that brain of yours for quite a while, very shortly.

I don't. I'm pleased that you are expressing your own point of view...and please continue to do so. However expressing points of view (other than Tory/pro Thatcher) will brand you as a socialist by the "elite" on this site.

HPC has become the equivalent of an exclusive club. You run the risk of being pilloried if you express a view which differs from those of the magic, sorry, inner circle of the elite or you are a homeowner over 60 years of age.

I don't think there is an elite on this site, and if there were, it most certainly would not include the lazy posters who throw around the word socialist as a pejorative.
