Let the campaigning begin!

Reuters: Conservatives put deficit cuts at heart of election campaign

The fast-growing national debt was "the greatest single risk to sustained economic recovery," Cameron said. "That's why we've been clear about our intention to cut public spending."

Comment from article -

'Britain has lagged most other major economies in emerging from recession, but analysts expect growth to have resumed in the fourth quarter of 2009, allowing Brown to point to hopeful signs for the future.'

I bet he'll try to take some credit for this as well. The 'miricle chancellor'. It was inevitable that the £200Bn would stimulate the market at some point. As inevitable that the economic growth through late 90's to early 00's was a given. It's a shame we didn't/don't have anyone with the foresight to see the potential problems before it's too late. It's also a shame the money invested in consultants isn't refundable!

The easiest and most likely way in which cuts will be made is cutting spending on consultants from E&Y, Cap Gemini, Accenture, etc. etc.

The biggest problem with the Conservatives is that much as I'd like to replace Labour I'm really worried about their lack of experience of running anything apart from bawdy toffs' drinking clubs.

There's always a 3rd option! I'm sure Vince Cable could do a better job as Chancellor.

Hear hear, markj! Vince has spoken more good sense than anyone else these days.
It's not as if your dog couldn't see this whole mess coming, yet time and again politicians use words like unexpected and unforeseen.
Re consultants, they are onto the most incredible scam - people without the foresight of your average red setter who give the gov crap advice that's going to line their own pockets, in addition to their outrageous fees. As markj implies, fees for crap advice should be refundable. Come to think of it, there are many professions where you can be sued or imprisoned if you make a genuine mistake....
Anyway, bring on the election!

I am not convinced that Cameron really wants in....would you? He seems noticeable only by his absence and it wouldn't surprise me if El Gordo scrapped back in!...and if he does, I'm off!!

If Gordi Brown does get back in expect more of the same - Smoke and mirrors, External influences, Rich getting richer, etc...etc..

Consultancy is just one of many mechanisms for siphoning money out of the public purse IMO. Looking after themselves (Whoever 'they' are! - Oxbridge fellows, old money, or the new/old super rich).

Surely if negligence if proven then those responsible will be held accountable? Maybe even some of the guaranteed pensions for MP's and PM's, and 'FAT CAT' financial leaders/Businessmen are not out of reach for helping to re-imburse the errors of their ways?

Did anyone catch Gordon on AM this morn?

A Powerhouse that will roar to victory on a wave of increasing "feel good" factors.

He's just too wise and quick thinking for David.
