I have always had the absolute lowest respect for Jack Straw; he is a career politician of the blandest kind.

His finest moment was on question time, when exposed by Nick Griffin, as someone with real blood on his hands...

Honestly cannot believe this unelected loser is still in power.

Totally unrelated but I was chatting with someone today who said interests rates can never go much higher than the Eurozones as "people here would all get their mortgages from Europe instead".

Any of you got any idea whether this is true or not? Can UK residents get mortgages from the Eurozone? If so, I imagine it takes one of the major possible contributors to another HPC out of the equation.

@6 sid - you can get mortgages from Eurozone but it's not a good idea because of the exchange rate risk. Your friend has missed the point though - if interest rates go up in the UK it will result in higher taxes.

Hey sid most of eastern Europe took out their mortgages in euros and when their currencies collapsed last year their debts effectively doubled. Ooops!
