Better the devil you know - really?

New York Times: Bernanke Confirmed for Second Term as Fed Chief

''The Senate voted 70-30 on Thursday to leave Mr. Bernanke at the helm of the central bank for another four years. The confirmation came minutes after senators voted, 77-23, to end a debate in which critics excoriated the central bank’s handling of the financial crisis''

I think the markets would have had a panic if Bernanke hadn't been re-confirmed. It's very much a case of better-the-devil-you-know. Alas it will probably mean the U.S. recession will be dragged out longer.

The longer other large economies continue to struggle, the more likely it is we (The UK) will also ride out the artificial stimulated situation we are in. QE in the UK can not continue indefinitely, and it's got to be paid for by someone at some point in time. Better we have a quick sharp shock, than long drawn-out stagnant housing market. Of which the cross-over point for housing affordability will be a long way off.

Let natural market correction occur. And regulate any industry capable of bringing this country to it's knees.
