That lovely free £200 used to be MY F$CKING INTEREST on my savings account. Why am I paying for these B@STARDS?!?! Let them fail and so house prices correct.

They will have to put IR up , as the whole world will soon see UK plc for a s[c][h]am [both apply] it has become. The Eaton Rifles will
be no help either.

Gordon Brown will NEVER put up interest rates, as it would be a clear admission that the country is bust. Brown has always identified 15% interest rates under the conservatives as a bust, so he simply won't do that.

Do you think if the conservatives at the time had a choice they would have put interest rates upto 15%

Re what General Congreve says, that's the clever bit - they rob every household of rather more than £200 a month in taxes*, but the majority then get £200 back from people like General Congreve (or me) but as we are in the minority, that is irrelevent to politicians.
Yet another triumph of Home-Owner-Ism - rob from the cash rich to give to the property rich all as a smokescreen to rob everybody of far larger sums.
* Above and beyond what they need to spend on actual schools'n'hospitals.

What are all these people doing with the money they've been saved? Larry Elliott of Guardian seems to think they're just paying down their mortgages. If that is the case would n't it have been better to arrange things so the poor got the money instead, on the principle that they spend everything they get.The shops should be booming. Its almost as if homeowners ,not being able to squirrel it into their property ,don't know what to do with it.If Brown/Darling has any sense they'd give up on them. But,of course, homeowners do deliver the election-winning bloc-vote.

Many are not hurting, many have never had it as good. Will the good times last for these lucky few?
