Charlie Brooker on Dubai
Guardian: Remember those dreamlike images of Dubai? Guess what. You were dreaming
I'm not sure even he realised that there are currently two palm islands, or what the eventual expansion plans were.

Charlie Brooker captured the air-conditioned nightmare aspect of property speculation in October 2008 (Guardian Comment is Free):
"It was all a dream,a dream in which you bought a box and lived in it and all the time it generated money, like a cow generates farts".
Pretty definitive encapsulation of the era in my view.

Fabulous article, exactly right about feeling uneasy about something, but confident that others must know better.
Could be accused of having easy hindsight but not so. We've all felt the same about housing (surely prices can't keep rising), banks (paper shufflers, what do they do to earn this money?) and Iceland (how does a country of 300,000 buy up our high streets and football clubs?).
Than you Charlie for a really enjoyable read.
