FT: Bank landscape is still tainted by greed and hubris
Some choice quotes from this article:
"With hindsight, it is clear that hubris and stupidity by senior British bankers played an important role in the current crisis."
"A bigger issue is that banker greed and hubris will stunt UK growth for a generation. Bankers destroyed millions of retirement nest-eggs and will cause taxes to rise as well. These are high prices for the population to pay."
"The sense of entitlement communicated by the Lloyds action defines the problem that the UK public still faces."

So why do we keep on bailing them out? To prop up house prices, that's why. It's like "Blue Suede Shoes" - politicians can do anything that they wanna do, but uh-uh honey, lay off of my house price bubble ...

Unfortunately, adding a modern Glass-Steagall to the regulatory mix will never happen. Regulators are worried about assets price correction which they in a misleading way call depression.

The housing minister, Margaret Beckett, said: "We are constantly looking at what more we can do to keep housing supply going in the current climate.
"That is why we are bringing forward spending and buying unsold homes, to deliver thousands more affordable homes sooner and help protect jobs in the construction industry. We have put in place the most comprehensive package ever to help families at risk of repossession."
