TIMES: Coventry offers 125 per cent loans to homemovers
"Mortgage brokers have welcomed moves by Coventry Building Society to offer 125 per cent loan-to-value mortgages to existing customers who need to move house. The UK's third largest mutual is to offer the controversial loans to customers in negative equity" with an "excellent credit history". (Nationwide allows existing customers to take out a home loan with a loan-to-value ratio of up to 95 per cent on a three-year fixed rate of 6.73 per cent or a five-year fix at 7.48 per cent. It then allows customers to borrow an additional 30 per cent at a rate of 7.23 per cent and 7.98 per cent).

With a mortgage rate fifteen times higher than the BoE base rate, I don't imagine they will exactly have people beating down the door for these deals.

Ive got a (currently) substantial sum with the Coventry. It wont be there for much longer.
The BSs have been bleating about competition from state run banks yet they think its ok to indulge in this type of crap.

mander - The conservatives have proposed an alternative regulatory body - but dont be fooled, it will very likely be staffed by the same people and more than likely in the same Canary Wharf office. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss...........................

Just to be clear, the FSA is paid for by banks, not through tax AFAIK, like the Press Complaints Commission. Both toothless wonders.

Just to be clear...didnt our illustrious and ulluminating leader not declare an end to 100% mortgages not too long ago? Or was that just for FTBs? Maybe he only meant 100%, and anything over and above that is fine....
