Funny that Hague sees the French comments as not a true reflection of Tory plans. They look pretty accurate to me. It's a great shame that by far the weightest Tory politician persists with these backward Blimpish attitudes. And as for that squirt Hannan, how do people like that ever get elected?
Congratulations on your French, mes amis. We're all Europeans now.

Étant donné le choix entre l'élite dirigeante de l'Europe ou de l'élite dirigeante de la Bretagne, je choisirai l'Europe.
Non que je veuille tout élite dirigeante

I have little interest in trying to debate issues, especially important ones, with those (relatively few) here whose political views are so trenchant that anyone or anything that challenges them provokes an outburst of invective. You have nothing on which to base the views, such as they are, that you express other than your prejudices. I am quite happy to have my comments argued against if done with reason and without malice. But, as you point out, you need say no more, or more accurately, you really have nothing to say. Still, you are not the first on this site (or indeed the worst) to fall back on name-calling, and I don't suppose you'll be the last.

Hear hear number cruncher, or whatever that is in French
BTW, are all these remarks in French (apart from the jokey ones) examples of your language skills, or a sneaky use of online translators. I confess my French n'est pas much cop, although it's better than my German.

Translation of my post for letthemfall @17
"Given a Choice between the ruling elite of Europe or the ruling elite of Britain, I will choose Europe.
Not that I want any ruling elite."
By this I mean the ruling elite of Europe have given their citizens a far bigger share of the cake than the UK and have sounder economic policies.
Don't get me wrong - I am a British Patriot and very proud of the things this country has achieved; notably science and the social policy of Lloyd George and Bevin. But at the moment the ruling Banksters have our political system by the short and curlys and our continental cousins have delivered a far batter lot for their populations.
The Tory Party is now controlled by a British elite who are concerned for their own privilege and advantage, and not that of the majority of our population. The Tory Party will be a disaster as much, if not worse, than Labour.
So why not let the Euro elite pull the stings as they will have as much concern for the average citizen in this country as our present rulers, the only looser will be the present British elite, who will see thier powe wain in favour of the powerful ruling elites of Germany and France.

Thanks number cruncher
although I did understand what you meant (though doesn't bretagne translate as brittany?)
Yes, I agree with you. Some good things have come from Europe, notably human rights, better employment laws, all things the Conservatives have been against - and plainly still are to some degree, though it depends on the member. I feel that the UK leans more to the inequalities of the US than the progressive outlook of Europe. Nothing is perfect of course - there are undesirable aspects of the EU - but I would rather be part of that continent than part of an isolated no-longer-Great Britain.
