Well, that and the fact they are over-priced
Daily Mail: Online crime maps 'could wipe thousands off house prices overnight'
"An interactive map offering detailed crime statistics on every street in England and Wales could wipe thousands off house prices in certain areas, experts warned today."
Makes a change from being robbed by the banks.

I would imagine those owning in the "Clapham Borders" will be feeling slightly misled.

Typical Daily Mail crap.
The information is neutral to overall prices. If the crime maps "wipe thousands off house prices" in a bad area, they will add thousands in good areas.
Have you actually tried using the maps? http://maps.police.uk/
They're very vague. You type in your postcode and get a rating 1-5, where 3 is average. There's a further breakdown into five types of crime (burglary, robbery, vehicle crime, violence, anti-social behaviour), each of which is also given a rating 1-5. Most of the country seems to fall into groups 2-4 though, so it's even more meaningless.

Total nonsense, an area where I used to live which was riddled with crime, on a daily basis, got an average rating and unbelievably low statistics that compared to the very peaceful area where I live now. Some examples of the crime that took place in this area:
1) Local man challenges gatecrashers at his daughters party, gets shot in the leg by a shotgun.
2) Week after I moved in a girl was raped in a local alleyway.
3) Local bus company threatens to stop driving the route because youths consistently threw bricks through bus windows as they went past.
4) I rented my place out for a bit while I worked abroad. The first night they moved in their car was broken into. 18 months later on a friday night a group of 30 youths vandalised their car (2k worth of damage) for a laugh while they watched bewildered from the window. Needless to say they moved out and I sold up in july 2007, pocketing a massive wad just before everything went t1ts. Thanks vandals! :)
